Q10. Can I work in Canada while I'm attending Sheridan?
A. Yes, you are allowed to work on campus while you are studying. You may also be eligible for a off-campus work permit after studying full-time for six months with a minimum GPA average of 2.0. You can also apply for a work permit if your program of study has a (cooperative education option). After you complete your program you are eligible to apply for a post-graduate work permit within 90 days of program completion.

Yes, its true that legally we can work on campus so far as our grades remain good and satisfactory. Meet the concerned college representative as soon as your college starts. But don't completely rely on that to pay your fees as the pay might not be very high.

Hi,

Yes, it looks not too many options (especially for average students). Most of the well paid on campus jobs comes for teaching assistant, Tutor for juniors, Assistant in Department, private tuitions and may be few other jobs as well (but may be hard to find vacant position).

* I am not in Canada so I am saying it just on the basis of what I have noticed/observed so far. It's better if someone can share his/her personal experience.

As mentioned earlier, on campus jobs are extremely competitive and hard to get a good one (like library and stuffs). But if the university has a big campus (aka public university), there would be loads of food shops and they constantly hire people and they pay at least the minimum wage set by the province (8 to 10). Better on campus jobs like bookstores and libraries are more of "referred" basis and they take people whom the admin knows. If you can get in touch with managers/executive body members of some sort of associations, that would be a plus for securing better job. Like here at uofc, they pay $15/hour at library while $10 (at max) in food shops.

About the 20hours/week, its just a guideline and nothing mandatory. If you can manage, you can work for more than that. But just a heads up, the study over here literally "kills" you if you don't give it enough time. I once enjoyed a long weekend without studying and had to go through a tidal wave! :p Those who arrive here at Fall gets advantage of working full time during summer but for people coming in January, that's a negative point since the work permit would be issued at the end of summer for them.

Over here, work and education is more or less like a trade off of each other.

Thnxx a lot, the info was qyt useful.Though i didn't get ur last point. As i will be starting in Jan 2012, wud i be able to apply for a off campus till june 2012 or I wud wait till the end of year i.e Jan 2013.As i will have two semesters in a year each of 4 months, though I have no idea that my both semester wud be consecutive i.e Jan to april nd May to Sept or they wud have holidays of 4 months in b/w.What kind of curicullum do colleges/ universities usually have consecutive terms or a holiday of 4 months in b/w for students starting in Jan..thnxx in advance :)
