Hello, ihope someone can help me with my question. Im quite confused about the common law union, do you have to apply for a common law union separately from applying to sponsor your partner? Or is it the same thing? Thanks and have a good one.

It's the same thing. You would apply to sponsor your partner, and, as you are unmarried, would then have to prove you are common-law through photos, documents, etc.

Thanks for the response..and So it means like when at least one year of staying together is reached, we can apply for PR sponsorship through common law union? And also, is it possible to extend visitor stay for more than 6 months for someone who came from a visa exempt country?

Yes and yes, they should apply for a visitor record before the 6 months are up.

So does it mean like letting them know that youre aiming for the common law union is not a good idea and that its not a good reason to tell them when you applying for an extension?

You can have dual intent (intent to later apply for PR while applying for temporary status) but it's best not to advertise it. Their stated intent must be to eventually leave Canada unless and until they become a PR.
