Traa-laaaaa

Just go slow, read each section and highlight/make notes of anything you don't understand.

There's no fast way to do it, it took me about 2 months to go through everything, fill in all the forms and gather all the information....but I sponsored my fiancé and we landed in May. Every stress is worth it!!!

Get together any documents that prove you have been living together for at least a period of one year.. joint bank account, lease agreement, insurance policies, shared credit cards, etc, then you also should prove to them you have a genuine and ongoing relationships.. so that would mean pictures, letters of support from family and friends (sworn declarations would be best) etc.

yes u do need those to send in with ur application

What if she has a criminal record? She hasn't been in any trouble with the law for over 10 years. Does this matter? Should I give up now?

Don't give up!! I know it's very daunting right now, but you'll get into the swing of it quickly.

We completed a lot of our forms and gathered evidence, then booked the medical & requested the police certificate when we were almost finished with the forms. Basically we wanted as much time as possible before having to land in Canada (you have 12 months from the date that the medical is done, or you need to re-do the medical if the visa hasn't been issued in time).

I can't advise you on the criminal record situation, but I'm sure someone else can.

Use this forum as much as you need to, the members are all very helpful and have been/are going through the same process.

Good luck x

Daunting is an understatement! I feel like I'm losing the will to live! I don't know what we'll do if she gets sent back. Thanks for all your help and patience with me!

Don't worry, just one step at a time! I printed off the tick sheet for what had to be included in the pack and worked through it 1 by 1. I made a list of supporting evidence that we were going to need and did that when I could (our parents had a lot of the information we needed).
Once it was done I put it in a file, and when they were all done I went back over each one to make sure everything was correct and then typed them up as 'master copies' to send to Missisaugua.

Honestly, once you start getting into it you'll be fine, just make sure you print off the guidelines to refer to when you need to....and pop on here when you need to aswell!!

Hi, I sponsored my commonlaw husband and police clearance is required from the countries you lived in.
2 pictures and fingerprinting are required. For fingerprinting there is a place on Dixie rd in Mississauga, the address could be picked up on google, then the original copies along with a letter can be sent directly to the Police headquarters in your country with a self address envelope and return postage or could be sent with an authorization to a family member to have it done for you.

I suggest also sending the Statutory Declaration of Common Law Union with your application as well. You will need a commissioner of oaths to sign in it. We did ours in Ottawa at the city hall and it costs us about $36 or so for them to sign it.

You need to send evidence with you application that shows that you have been living together for at least a year and are in a relationship. Examples include:
Lease agreement with both names on it
Joint bank account
Pictures at various times throughout the relationship
Basically anything substantial.

You MUST have at least 2 statutory declarations from 2 persons that know of your relationship and can state that it ongoing. It is also a good idea to get the Statutory declarations signed by a Justice of the Peace or whoever signs documents wherever you are from.
