Common Law Sponsorship- Work Permit

I have a common law partner who is a permanent resident of Canada .Both me and my common law partner can prove common law relationship and we are both working as accounting professionals (CPA CGA).

My Post graduate work permit is expiring soon and would appreciate if someone can share his/her opinion as to whether i can get open work permit based on common law partner. Thanks

Since a PGWP cannot be extended, your only option may be to apply for Inland Spousal (Common-Law Partner) Sponsorship. This would qualify you for the Pilot Program Open Work Permit that was launched in December of 2014 (now extended through the end of 2016).

You would likely receive the OWP ~ 4 months after CIC receives the Inland sponsorship application and OWP application.

I have one more query- I have applied CEC-Express entry on independent basis . Is it possible that i just apply for OWP based on common law spouse and don't file for her sponsorship for PR ?

No. The OWP is only available for those with an inland sponsorship application.
