My Canadian boyfriend and I have been dating for 2 years.
Last year, I moved in with him in Canada under a "visitor" visa. We are trying to apply for "Common-Law" Sponsorship.

I have had to make several 2- week trips home to work because I am not able to find employment in Canada under my visa, and I still need to earn money.

Question: I read through the Canadian immigration stuff and it says periods of absence should be "short and temporary" but does not define exactly how long. We live together, share bills, etc, but I have been absent for about one week per month to go to the USA.

a) how do i know these trips don't disqualify me if they dont give a specific number of days I can be absent?
b) confused as to what to tell them regarding my absences

Thanks!

The consensus in most threads discussing this is that it really does boil down to the visa officer that handles your file.

If you had been able to live together for 12 solid months before your monthly breaks, it would have been better, but...all you can do now is try!

Fortunately, CIC does recognize employment as a valid reason for `short' separations.

Good Luck!
