Common Law partner after 1 year on Experience Canada Visa

I think conjugal could be difficult for you. If you look at it from a different point of view. You could be just friends and you want to get into Canada. You know each other for ten years, but don't live together (one month is nothing for Immigration). You don't want to get married, you are not financially dependent on each other. Conjugal partners should still have a very committed relationship for at least one year.

Yeah but these are thigns we can build. What do they want, erotic emails? I'm pretty good at writing steamy emails, if i do say so myself, i can show them these if they want lol

I'm not going to move to Canada until the beginning of 2013 anyway. We're going to visit each other as much as we can this year. All my holidays with work i'll spend with her. In THAT time, if we start building a "marriage-like" case, without the "living together" (due to circumstances) plus the one year work visa i'll have (so we could be conjugal for ALMOST two years, and one month off common law) - i think i have a pretty tight case, reading their op02 guidance anyway...

I don't know, love to hear feedback from what it took for people who did it to do it.

Hey man, if u guys are certain conjugal is a long shot (i really don't see why?) then i can always do what i suggested before. Get my Letter of Introduction - go visit her a couple of months on a tourist visa, so we can START the cohabiting bit, go to a border point (she literalyl lives on the Canada/US border crossing - like 10 minute drive depending on traffic - and then hand my letter and get the one year work permit.

This way i'll easily make the one year required for Common Law, and I'll do it that way.

Just wanted to clarify if ^^^ that option was feasible first. I'm just wondering if they might get iffy if they see that i was in her house for 2 months (maybe 3) and then re-entered to get my work permit for one year - they might get suspicious and think i have no intention of going back.

I was going to tell them that i used the first few months to "get established" check the job market, apply to a few places and get a head start... and that i'm a freelance writer so my income in the UK is constantly coming in.

So one of those options. It all seems really tricky, but lesser people than me have don it goddamit!

I don't believe in marriage... it's a patriarchal institution designed to perpetuate the propertied class! lol
