hello all, im going to come to Canada next week to visit my bf with a return ticket booked for 3 weeks away. there is a chance that i may stay there for a few months but i am waiting on my work to let me know if i can have a leave of absence so for now the plan is to come back in 3 weeks. i know i can stay 6 months most times.

am i allowed to stay longer if i tell them when entering that i plan to leave in 3 weeks?

will they stamp my passport on entry with an exit date on it or just an open ended stamp. the last time i went to Canada i had no stamp at all when i came to go on a cruise. this time i want a stamp in case i do stay longer and then he comes to the usa so we can show we lived together for a one year period hopefully. if they dont stamp it will this be a problem proving it later that i was in Canada for the time etc? can i ask for a stamp or if i do that will they place an exit date on it? thanks!

If I were you, I would tell the point of entry agent that I plan to stay in Canada for x-number of months (up to 6 months on most visitor visas) and then if you have to leave in 3 weeks, no one is forcing you to stay in Canada.

When they stamp your passport they will write the date that you have to be out of the country by. If there is not date then it is 6 months after the day you arrived in Canada, that will be on the stamp. Once are in Canada you can submit an extension request and it will be considered approved until you get a new date to leave Canada by.
