Coming for citizenship test and interview from abroad.

Hi Friends.

My situation is like this :

I have lived and worked in Canada for almost 4 years and when bill C6 kicked in applied immediately for citizenship under 3/5 rule. A week afterwards I went back to my home country and right now residing there for almost a year with my Canadian spouse. I plan to stay in my home country with my spouse for some more years . In Canada we have a house which is being rented out right now ,bank accounts , mutual funds and some furniture + personal belongings.

Today I have received an invitation for citizenship test and interview. In my application form I have stated my Canadian address and have never changed it although I have moved out as I was expecting to get an invitation to my Canadian address (residents at my house are notifying me for every mail that comes in) and not confuse the immigration office with address change to the one abroad.

I'm wondering how it'll go once officer will realize that I do not live in Canada any longer and how he'll address the fact that I have not called immigration office and not changed the address when moved abroad, it is considered a fraud? Do I have in general to be worried about the fact that I do not live right now in Canada and it's possible negative affect on my chances to end up with citizenship?

If anybody experienced similar situation , I'll be happy to hear how interview passed and what questions have been asked? How much time it was from the test till oath invite although immigration knew that the applicamt is currently living abroad?

My coworker left Canada to work in another country 2 months after submitting application, came back for test and oath, then left and applied for passport from that country - not sure what was asked during the interview, but there didn't seem to be any issue

If the address is your only worry - Don't worry about it They asked for an address, which should be interpreted as mailing or contact address, NOT your primary residence. If anything to worry it's getting their correspondence in time and the logistics to make test/oath, but looks like you got that covered already.

FWIW, I think that the interviewing officer would be within her/his rights to make you go and get a new pcc from your home country. Such can be asked for from any applicant at any time in the process, of course.

Please come with a PCC from your home country since at 100%, the officer will ask you for it.

Here is an update : So I flew in Canada and passed my test with 20/20 and was called for the interview right away. I was very prepared and brought with myself all flight tickets for trips I had during my stay in Canada , as well as a photocopies of my husband's Canadian passport. The interviewer asked me first to present all my cards as a proof of identity , then she asked me what I'm currently doing. I have mentioned that I'm currently living in my home country and working there. It seemed like the fact that I'm not living in Canada now had no affect on her at all . Then she asked me when I have travelled last time : I have riplied that 3 days ago I flew in Canada. She opened my passport and verified the stamps. She then asked me how long was my flight and what is time difference. I answered. She seemed to be satisfied'l and then offered me to come the next day for oath ceremony. I was happy and surprised all at once and accepted her offer . The next day I became Canadian citizen.

Overall I have to mention that I was prepared to extended scrutiny and even RQ , but nothing of this has happened. All was quick and smooth. And therefore I'm very happy and wish all of you fast process and happy ending. Money saved for another flight were spent on gifts and souvenirs for my family members

Aw congrats! I'm in a similar situation, working abroad while applying for citizenship. I flew in for my test and interview on Aug 8, got 20/20 and the officer was happy with my application and I got DM the next day. Strangely enough, the airport immigration asked me more questions about my time abroad till I told them that I have arrived for my test. But I didn't get the oath right away, will come back by Sept 18 for that.

On August after not hearing a long from IRCC sent them an email enquiring about application's status. Few hours later received test invite by email to appear for a test in 2 weeks. Immediately booked tickets and flew in Canada. Oath invite for the following date after a test and an interview was physically handed out to myself by the officer. Luckily I came in to Canada for two weeks period , so I had enough time to apply for a passport via urgent process ( costs 50$).

Just a quick question . did you mention your overseas job when you file your tax return in canada?
