Co-signer/Marriage certificate confusion

Hi there!

My husband (US) and I recently got married and we are currently waiting for the marriage certificate. After going through the documents checklist for the sponsor, I noticed that it says I need a photocopy of the marriage certificate if you have a co-signer and he or she is your spouse.

Now from what I understood, my husband wasn't going to be my cosigner (or doesn't need to be). In that case, do I need the marriage certificate to send in the application then? Maybe we're misunderstanding what a cosigner is.

So... I don't need a marriage certificate then to send off the application...? Do I need to at least receive the certificate in the mail to send off the app? (ie. its been put in the system). Still confused about this as I was told by the officiant who did the ceremony that we would need it to apply.

It's in the country specific instructions, under #7 (Identity and Civil Status Documents)

Provide birth certificates, baptismal certificates, national identity card or certificate (Cedula) where
available, or other official document confirming relationship (including all pages of Household Registries) for you and each of your family members.
If you are married, you must include a marriage certificate.
