Co-op

- 3 year study, 2 years of study + 1 year work.
- this will be the case, 3 sems study, 1 sem work, 1 sem study, 1 sem work, 1 sem study, 1 sem work (total 3 years + 1 sem)

advantage:
- will get experience
- no fee for work placement semesters (i think there is maybe $700?)
- more job opportunities after 3 year of study

disadvantage:
- too long to get PR (after 4 years?)
- im not sure if companies will hire me for 4 months only (1 semester), and this will be the case for 3 times, coz i got 3 work placements.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Non Co-op

advantage:
- 2 year study
- less time consumed
- can get fast PR
- can work continuously after finishing my studies, so i dont have to worry anything BUT WORK later on.

disadvantage:
- no work experience
- might be hard to find job
- low salary (not sure?)
- low level position in work

SO... what do you guys think??? To save time or get work experience? All suggestions and comments are welcome.

what is your course code ?
and you landed at vancouver right ?
but your college is in ontario . were there any problems at POE in vancouver?

i think co op will be good option as for getting PR you need to have work experience and it will help you to secure good job after studies

If PR is your ultimate goal, work experience is the means which will feed your residency. And co-op will make it lot easier to gain that experience. What's the point of saving 1 year if you wait another year or so after your studies to get a job. Companies do hire co-op students for 4 months; but it's true that some of them prefer longer terms. You should research more about your particular co-op program. Do most students secure placement? How much the school/coop office help? Do students arrange their employment by themselves?

You already said the pros and cons. Therefore, I will let you decide. I will just add this that I prolonged my undergrad from 4 years to 5 years for converting a 4-month co-op into 16 month.

Thanks for the link. Well it says the official duration of a course if equal or more than 2 years u might be able to get a 3 year work permit.

with that said, the official duration of the course is 2 years that includes co-op and one cannot graduate without completing the co-op if one opts for it. Any thoughts?

well my course total is 3 years (2 years study + 1 year work term)

so if ur course is 2 years (including co-op), i think it will be fine.

but we need to wait for more replies, just to confirm.

Generally, for a undergrad 4-year degree at the university, the 3 terms of each year are divided into 2 study terms and 1 co-op term (if it has co-op program). Therefore, one will have 8 study terms and 4 co-op terms for the whole degree duration. I extended my last co-op term from 4 months to 16 months. This will still be regarded as a 4-year degree.

Now if your degree firmly states that it's a 3-year program; then you will most likely get 3 year PGWP. Anything less may end up getting shorter PGWP.
