Closed WP Vs bridging open work permit(BOWP) - Can i apply both at same time.

Hi Seniors,

My closed WP is going to expire in June 2013. I am eligible to apply BOWP in month.

Our Company also willing to extend my work permit,but our company will not support PR processing.

I am confused whether i should go for closed WP or BOWP.

below are pros and cons for closed WP or BOWP.

Closed WP
- I can continue with current job with same employer (Job Security)
BOWP
- If PR application rejects(99% it wont reject), i have option to look for new job within Canada who will support PR processing.
- Our Company will not allow us work with BOWP.


Can i apply Closed WP and bridging open work permit(BOWP) at same time

Please advise.

canadacec2012, there is no gurantee that you will receive a positive LMO for your WP to be approved.

Don't you think CIC is aware of the fact that candidates will also try to apply for a normal WP at the same time along with a BOWP?

Your client ID should remain the same for both BOWP and normal WP. Don't worry. go ahead and apply for BOWP.

Hi - please call CIC about this. I do not believe you can have two different work permit applications in at the same time - the second application would cancel the first one, I believe, and you certainly could not hold both at the same time. It is not the same as with PR applications, so please verify with CIC.

I do not understand how a company can refuse to employ someone on a BOWP when they employ TWP. It sounds like your employer might be one of those that refuses to provide a detailed letter of employment - if that is the case, your CEC application may not be as safe as you think.

The downside of the closed work permit - if you renew your closed work permit, you will not be eligible for the BOWP. Later, if you lose your job, you have no option to work until you find a new employer with a new LMO (hopefully, your PR application is successful before then). But if you feel your job is safe, the closed work permit might still be your better option.

Sorry Yahoo7 . i am not very clear on the below statement can you please clarify my doubts ?

My case does not require positive LMO, since i have intra company transfer(ICT) work permit.


1)will CIC approve the both Work Permits if I apply both at a time?

or

will CIC reject any one of the Work Permit if I apply both at a time?

Hello Jai,

I have one question bud. You said your company doesn't support PR processing. Have you already started PR processing? The reason I ask this is you can get BOWP only if your PR is in process.

I called CIC and they confirmed that we can apply the Closed and BOWP at the same time.

BOWP can be applied as soon as you meet the requirements.(http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob485.asp )
while applying closed work permit we need to write covering letter why we need to closed work permit even after submitting of BOWP.

in my case the closed work permit filing is under control of company authorized lawyer,so i don't have choice to write explanation letter why i need Closed work permit even after submitting of BOWP.

i have some time to think. mostly i may opt for closed work permit option.

suggestions/advise pls.

What supporting documents did you provide instead of a letter outlining duties?

I have submitted the below docs for CEC application processing.

1.Visa extenstion letter from HR (which has roles and responsibility)
2.US visa processing letter from HR (letter deos not hae roles and responsibility)
3.ADP paystubs (more than 2 years)
4.T4 &NOA (2years)

in your BOWP, you have the option of attaching the explanation letter while submitting the application online. You can explain your case there. Most companies will employ authrorized lawyers, so better bet would be to apply for closed permit first and then BOWP with explanation letter detailing closed wp.
