I am currently working for a company in Canada with my OWP that will expire on October. I have heard that it is possible to apply for a Closed Work Permit if my employer wants to keep me and it is not necessary the LMIA. The employer only needs to access the "employer portal”, pay a $130 fee and ask for a work permit extension for me. Then, I need to get a code number from them and apply for my extend work permit.

Is it correct?
How to apply for a closed work permit when you are currently working for a company in Canada?

Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA before you can qualify for a closed work permit.

There are some cases where employers are exempt from the LMIA process, but these are only a few exceptions. In the vast majority of cases an LMIA is required. You'd need to tell us more about your job and employer to tell you if there's any chance you're LMIA exempt. But again, generally speaking, the LMIA is required.
