Hi,

I need some advice about my situation.
I move to canada less than a year with closed work permit, planning to get express entry after a year working with good additional score from 1 year exp + job offer points.

But the company is shutting down before I have 1 year experience.
My spouse have open work permit, but not working yet.
Is there a way to change my work permit to open work permit since the company is shutting down or based on my wife open work permit?

I kind of stuck in bad situation right now if I cannot find a job.

Thanks

Unfortunately you cannot obtain an open work permit based on your spouse's open work permit. The only reason your spouse qualifies for an open work permit is because of the closed work permit you currently hold.

To qualify for a new work permit, you will have to secure a job offer from a new employer, that employer will need to obtain an approved LMIA and then you will have to apply for a new closed work permit. Once that new closed work permit is approved, you'll be able to start working for your new employer.

Your spouse can continue working on their open work permit even if you are no longer working for your original company.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm a senior engineer that confidence can bring many thing to the company.
Does anyone have experience getting softwate engineering job that provide LMIA?
What will be the steps since on the vacancy it doesn't state about LMIA, do I need to contact the recruiter to persuade that it is worthed to get LMIA to hire me.

Yes - you would need to contact the recruiter and convince them to go through the LMIA process.
