Client Information letter for visit extension

Hi!

Posting another question about extending my visit. I'm asking IRCC for 12 months so that when me and my fiance eventually become married and start the spousal sponsorship, it will cover the processing time. I finished the application so all I have to do is provide the bank information and a picture of myself but I was wondering if I could get any advice on the client information letter? This is my second draft and I tried to alter it to how it's usually formatted (first version seemed to fit more for the spousal application, not visit extension). I was just wondering if this looks alright and isn't too wordy or needs more details? Thanks :)

The letter:
Client Information: Letter of Explanation

(my name)

This letter is an explanation of my situation as to why I am requesting to extend my stay as a visitor within Canada and giving additional information on my specific case.

I originally came to Canada to visit my partner, (his name), but we have become engaged as he proposed to me recently. We are planning on eloping within Canada, as I am already in the country, and eventually applying for a family sponsorship (spousal) once we receive our marriage certificate. We plan to pay the fee of $1,080 and any other associated fees for the spousal sponsorship once our marriage is finalized, which would be in early July.

We wish to extend my stay for 12 months (until April 20th, 2025) so that we can eventually begin the spousal sponsorship and so that I can stay with him as the application is being processed once that time comes. We are very serious about this process as we have been close friends since December 2019 and have been dating since June 2022.

We understand that this extension may be denied, as well as the future spousal sponsorship, and if so, I will return to my country to comply with your immigration laws.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter and we hope that you understand our situation. We look forward to your response and are very thankful for your time, effort, and consideration throughout this process.

Kind Regards,
(my name)

It seems overall fine to me, but I would edit to cut down verbiage as much as possible. You repeat some points here. Short sentences, less flowery, cut down the politeness formulations to simple thanks (eg 'time, effort and consdieration throughout this process' is a bit much). It may help you to simply put the factual bits as bullet points: dating since x, arrived in Canada for visit in x, residing/engaged since x, wedding planned for x. Remove eventually, sounds weird - another simplifying edit of a sentence as an example - from 'We wish to extend my stay for 12 months (until April 20th, 2025) so that we can eventually begin the spousal sponsorship and so that I can stay with him as the application is being processed once that time comes' >> 'I request a 12 month extension of stay to finalize the marriage and apply for spousal sponsorship.' (The 'stay together in Canada bit is so obvious not much need to state it, really - you're applying to stay in Canada).

Not that anything wrong with your writing, but I believe they'd mostly prefer short, simple, easily identifiable and actionable text. I was schooled to write longer and more elaborately, too.

I have no idea what eloping means in this context but ok.

Obviously not being married yet delays your ability to get certificate, apply for PR, get a work permit and be done with the process. You might consider a simple civil ceremony earlier and then do whatever 'ceremonial' wedding you want later. But up to you.

Thank you both very much! Yeah, I was worried it was a bit lengthy since as you mentioned school usually teaches us to stretch it out (haha). I will take what you both say and try and alter it to be more straight to the point. Thank you again :)

I updated the letter to reflect the advice given. Reduced it to bullet points so that IRCC can quickly skim it over :)

  • In May 2023, he visited the USA to see me.

I am somewhat in a similar situation. And will adapt some of the ideas here. Wondering if you got the extension you applied for.
