Hello anyone attempted to do the Citizenship test from outside Canada? I am travelling and would like to know how to go about it and if there are any implications on the same. Thank you.

Hi, I took it from outside Canada, but I informed them and got a confirmation from IRCC to attend. There are no implications in my case processing.

I too, took the test outside of Canada, and already got the passport by now. It's important to send them a response immediately after test invitation email is received. Just explain why you have to take it outside, and they would normally instruct you to proceed with the test.

Mind telling us how long ago did you take the test? I am suspicious they might have changed this recently and would appreciate if you can confirm if your are a recent test taker. Thanks

Hello Buddy,

Before some time there was an article on how to respond to the outside of Canada test. But now I am not able to find it. Looks like IRCC has removed this article and can give tests from anywhere without informing them. Let me know if you contacted them and completed your test. I am in the same boat as you.

It went pretty fast for me, took test on July 15, LPP cleared on July 25, took oath on August 5 without any prior interview. I just send them email that i can attend an interview or oath at a short notice of 1-2 weeks.

O CONGRATULATIONS! This is Awesome! Can you please share the complete timeline?

So you have written the test outside and emailed them before writing or went ahead and wrote the email that you would be available for an oath /interview whenever scheduled by IRCC.?

Technically you don't need to email IRCC about where you take the test.
Study the materials then take the test at your own comfort.
I submitted my application and took the test outside of Canada, never have to email them, then I got a fingerprint requests, an interview request to verify my Presence, then got my Oath scheduled.
The whole application took about 8 months.
IRCC will email you of your next steps, so you don't need to email them.

Okay. So in test invite, their are no instructions that inform IRCC if you are outside Canada ? I recall someone shared invite email which has mentioned it.
It's great to hear that we can proceed without informing them at all.

Email them only when you're outside of Canada and have trouble accessing the test link due to VPN or some sort of restrictions, or unable to take the test due to travelling.
Other than that, prepare yourself with a working laptop or PC, microphone and camera, you're all set to take the test regardless you're outside or inside Canada.

I doubt this is right way if the test email attached PDF explicitly asks you to contact IRCC before giving the test outside of Canada.

My test email PDF, Eligibility section explicitly stated that -
 If you are outside of Canada and you would like to take the Canadian citizenship knowledge test
from outside of Canada, please contact us (CIC-OTTAWA-CITIZENSH@cic.gc.ca) within 24 to 48
hours from the date of this notice and indicate ‘’Outside Canada’’ in the subject line of the email.
Provide your name, application number and the start and end date for your online test in the text of
your email. We’ll contact you with the next steps after we receive your email.
