I would agree with this view as it makes sense. Accordingly, this mans they cannot freeze your citizenship application if you are you are still fulfilling your Physical presence requirement for you Permanent Residence. right?

I'm not sure about freezing an application, you will have to reach out to IRCC.

Correct, they should not but they are either using old school policy or deliberately doing it to reduce number of active applications.
Earlier they used to put applications on hold because applicant cant respond if they are outside since all communications are postal. But now its all via email and online, except interview/oath but still not sure why they are adding absence.

As far as i understand, i dont think there is law but its mostly a procedure/policy within cic. Not sure about the basis of these policies but its certainly troubling for the people (like me) who are outside and trying to get work done at each stage.

As there is no necessity to put the application on hold, they should at least ask the candidates whether they are ready to travel for any interview/oath, instead they simply adding absence(and /or putting file on hold) is not good, that too during this pandemic(and when everything is online communication).

You are allowed to write your citizenship test outside of Canada. However, you will have an interview with a citizenship officer to finalize your application once you passed your test.

Did you mention on interview in your email asking for test outside?
I am trying to see how interview got mixed up.

I am out side canada right now, asked to do test online, and this is the reply I got today.

Possibly they are bombarded with too many emails hence they are mixing up things.
So you can just focus on preparing for test and give the test. Your office will email you if you need interview. So nothing to worry about their email.
Interview is just to verify your documents/passports/residence questionnaire, nothing much.

Hi, just received test invitation update online on the tracker. My test window is between Sept 17 to Oct 7. However, I'm outside Canada. So would I be able to do the test? Would IRCC also ask for scanned copies of my passport and proof of departure from Canada?

They are asking for some people on proof of return(after you return back), not proof of departure as far as i understand.
For few they seem to be updating the file with the absence "from date" hence they wanted to fill the return date once you are back.

As you have read in other forum threads, yes you can attend from outside but you need to inform first.

Hey guys, just want to give an update. I got my test invitation on September 15 and after sending an email back asking permission to do the test outside of Canada, I received approval from them the same day itself with instructions on how to do the test. They didn't ask for proof of return or scanned passport copies.

I sent an email to the Hamilton IRCC office regarding taking the test from outside of Canada on 22nd September (the day I received the test invitation email) and haven't heard back anything yet. My test window started on the 24th September. Does anyone have an idea on how long it takes to receive the confirmation email regarding taking the test from outside of Canada? TIA

You dont wait for them to respond.
Test link is open to all and you can attend the test. Informing them is enough but as you need to anyway wait for the exam since you need to prepare. So prepare for the exam and you would get reply within a week.
Depending on the location, they take from 1 day to 7 days to respond. Again, you dont need their reply hence just focus on studying.
Whether you get email or not from them, give your exam in 3 weeks for sure.
