Hi
I need some advise on determining my eligibility for citizenship.

Its been 3 years we(Wife, daughter and myself) moved to Canada and living in Canada on PR.
In the last 3 years i traveled to US every year for 2 weeks. Twice for education purpose and once for vacation.
All the times,(Except vacation 2 weeks) my wife and kids were in Canada and i was the one in US.

Do i need to consider those 6 weeks as absence while applying for citizenship or leave it as it is for education purpose?

On an another note, my wife and kid traveled overseas for vacation for 3 months. When they were away i was in Canada.
Do i need to consider the 3 months as absence?

Appreciate your help feedback on this.

Thank you and appreciate the note and advise....

I read FAQ on this site which says there are some exceptions and these exceptions are exactly the ones in in my case. If you are away for study purpose or away for a while while your dependents are living in Canada.

Any thoughts?

You should not look at those exception issues. Any one applies under those exception often will get RQ and wait 24+ months.. So the wise option will be just wait 6 weeks to cover your absence towards 1095 days. .

I agree with rayman. 6 weeks is not a lot to cover.

Just wondering how long will it take for the citizenship changes to be effective as i need to wait for another 2 weeks to submit my application for citizenship.

Any thoughts on this?

They will surely take more than two weeks :) Don't worry !

You will be able to apply ! Just don't forget not to apply on the 1095'th day, by the law, you should sign your application on the 1096th day...and I suggest that you add 5 or 6 more days as a buffer! A friend of mine applied with just 1096 days and now he got RQ ( after the test) and CIC is investigating every single time he left canada even when it was for just 2 hours... that's what they told him!

That's just an advice to save you the trouble !

Thank you so much for the advise...

The departure date and arrival date need to be considered as days in Canada or absent days?
I was in Canada those days and took flight to US and when landed in Canada.

You don't have to count anything, let the calculator do its job!

For your information, even if you were in Canada before leaving, one out of the two days will count as if you were out ( either the one of your departure or the one where you came back) , but let the calculator do the job... just input the dates as they appear in your passport and on your tickets and you will be alright !

Regarding the language tests, if i apply for my wife's citizenship as a separate application, does she have to give language test?
When we got our PR, it was only me who gave the test.

I am thinking of applying as separate application as my wife spent some time overseas and still has time to apply for citizenship.
I want to apply now due to the immigration changes and donot want to wait for another year.

Advise on this is very much appreciated...

Regards

If your wife does not have CIC required diploma/transcript, she may take CELPIP-G LS test which will cost $175 from April. You can apply when you are eligible and she may apply when she is. There is no advantage applying together or individual. Each application will have its own merit..
