Citizenship Application - Questions

Hi, I will be eligible to apply for my citizenship in July 1st week, and I am thinking of applying for the citizenship by end of July, to have some margin on the number of days. I am getting ready with gathering documents, etc.; and I have the below questions. I appreciate your kind response:

1) I have landed in Canada in Oct 2012, and went back to US, where I was residing at that time. I came back to Canada permanently in June 2013. The physical presence calculator does not allow me to enter June 2013 as the time I came to live to Canada (arrival to Canada), when I specify Oct 2012 as the landing date. Therefore, I am specifying both my arrival to Canada, and permanent residence date as Oct 2012 in my physical presence calculator. Hope that is fine. Please let me know if this is the correct way to do.

2) In between Oct 2012 and June 2013, prior to my permanent move to Canada in June 2013, I have traveled to Sweden when I was residing in US. I do not think I need to mention travel to Sweden in the physical presence calculator, as I really traveled from the USA. I understand that the physical residence calculator is essentially about traveling into and out of Canada. I will be mentioning that I have left Canada from Oct 2012 and returned to Canada in June 2013. Please confirm that I do not need to mention travel to Sweden.

3) I will be applying for my 5+ year old son's Canadian citizenship along with my citizenship application. I am planning to send both of our applications in the last week of July. However, he will be traveling out of Canada from mid July to mid August. Is it fine to send his application even when he is out of the country? Do I need to wait until mid August when he returns to send both of our applications? I am fine ether way, and wondering the correct procedure.

Thank you for all the responses.

Our stories are similar on the first two questions.
1) You should indicate October 2012 for both date you came to live in Canada and date when you became PR.
2) Since for October 2012 - June 2013 you indicate that you were in the USA, you do not need to have separate line for Sweden. However, in the comments (or reason for trip) field indicate dates you were in Sweden.
3) I would guess it should be fine to apply in July as residency requirements do not apply to kids but experienced should know for sure.

Bill C 6 will pass with all amendments before or on June 23, they shift it to that week as they know they will vote on it and pass it, they're not sending it back to the Senate. Government has already made up their mind on that bill.

I am going to submit my application by JULY 10. I have some questions and need help
1. 6e Are there any gap in time in the validity.........
my passport expired January 26, 2015 and I didn't renew it .....I answered by saying YES and provided the following explanations "
my passport has been expired on January 26,2015 and I have Not renewed it since then. Also, I would like to let you know that I do not have any other passport or travel document other than this expired passport (passport Number xxxxxxxx). Reason for not renewing my expired passport: I was not planning to go outside Canada.

2. 6I -- Minor education....do I need to mention the vacation time in the table or only the time spent at the school for instance I have a child spent from 07/2011 to 07/2013 in school in Saudi Arabia then 09/2013 till now in school in Canada.....the question is do I need to state in the chart provided the time from 07/2013 to 09/203 as a vacation. Also for the kids to whom I checked not at the school age do I need to fill the city and country information for them.

3. income tax information
I filed tax for 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013 only.... not for 2012 and 2011 what my answer is supposed to be regarding required TO FILE and Taxes FILED...

4. Any one from Hamilton area can meet to help in reviewing the application, we can arrange....

Thank You in advance

For the first point, it looks good to me.
For the second, for the gap between 07 and 09 2013 I would state something. I would not call it vacation but more "transition to new university." For kids information I did not add any info except "N/A" and checked the box not of a school age.
For the third, it depends whether you were PR of Canada for those years.

Hi folks, I'm hoping someone could shed light on my situation.

I will be eligible to apply for citizenship in May 2018.
Now, my girlfriend, who has come as an international student has been staying with me since Jan 2017.

If she continues to stay with me, then by Jan 2018, we will have automatically become common law spouses, which I guess I would have to declare in my citizenship application form.

My question is:
- Will this create any complications or delays in MY citizenship process?

- Is it mandatory to submit proof of common law such as a "statutory declaration of common-law union" etc.?
She is not on my lease or any of my utility bills as my only intention is to support her until she is financially able to take care of herself.

- Or should she just move out? (It'll be extremely tight financially)

We both don't really want this whole common-law status but from what I've read it's automatic after 12 continuous months of living together.

Thanking everyone in advance for your help.

Thank you so much. I truly appreciate your response. I landed in 27-06-2011 with only 35 days in 2011 and 35 days in 2012 too. I settled in 24 August 2013 and since then I didn't go outside Canada.

You said you put N/A ...where did you put it since you checked the Not at school age box.....
still my question is while checking not at school age box ..do i need to fill the information about city and country?

Thanks again

I have a comparable story for 2011 and 2012. For Tax, for both 2011 and 2012 I would say "Tax filing required? NO. Taxes filed? NO"

I put "N/A" under Institution/School. AS I said above I did not add any other information except N/A, no city, no school, nothing. tick the box and put N/A. You can write N/A over any space there with your pen. Don't waste your time thinking which field to put the N/A in. It does not really matter.

I saw my accountant today and he said exactly what you recommended for 2011 and 2012.

Hi everyone,
On Question
H. Work and education history in the six (6) years immediately before the date of your application or since you became permanent resident, if you became a permanent resident within the past six years ('the relevant period').
1. Do I have to write since I became permanent residence ( ex. 01/01/2013) or since last 6 years(06/06/2011),
2. During this period of time I was laid off twice, what do I write on application form? laid off or unemployed?
Thank you very much!

1. If you became PR more than 6 years then the last 6 years. For example if you are applying today 6-6-2017 , you relevant period is 6-6-2011 to 6-6-2017. If you became PR less than 6 years stick to date you became PR.
2. I wrote unemployed....
