I was wondering if any else as experienced this. I applied 2 years ago for citizenship to Canada and took the test earlier this year. I was told i would receive a letter letting me know when and where i would be taking the oath, however, i received a letter last week saying i didn't show up for my oath and my application has been marked "Abandoned." I never received a letter saying when or where the Oath was going to take place. Why would i purposely miss something i waited two and a half years for??.. Has this happened to anyone else? if so, what was done?? Do i have to re-apply and wait yet another 2-3 years??

Thats why people should never rely on mail only and need to keep checking their case status online. Remember they never send correspondence in registered mail. Regardless, your best option is to call CIC and ask them what to do. I know people who missed the test can actually have it rescheduled and taken (after few months) so I dont see why they wouldnt reschedule the oath.

Another thing is that they shouldn't make people wait that long for an application being processed. One of the requirement is to have 3 years of residency, but the process alone takes another 2-3 years. Lots of things can happen in 2-3 years.

I have lived in Canada for 19 years. Is there another number besides the one I get on the site I could call? when I call, all I get Is the menu repeating itself and then told they're busy and sent back to the beginning of the menu.

What does your ecas state? As a side issue its a joke that in this day and age CIC doesn't as a minimum test and oath invitations or ideally all communication by some form of registered delivery. They can add a check box on all forms requiring an additional payment. Mail delivery especially over winter and with the move by Canada Post towards community mail boxes can and does harm applicants. Of course you have the lazy bunch, those who forget to update their address with CIC and those who don't live in Canada and rely on the goodwill of friends, family or UPS/other mail forwarding company.

I just checked the status of my application online and it still says "In Progress". The last thing posted was:
4.We sent you a notice on January 2, 2014 to appear and write the citizenship test on January 13, 2014 at 8:30 AM. The notice you will receive by mail will be your official confirmation of your appointment. If you have not received this notice prior to the date of your scheduled appointment, please contact us.

Another thing I should mention is after I took the test, I was told by the lady that I couldn't take the Oath until my mother had attempted the test a second time since we were bound together. After the second attempt than I was aloud to decide if I want to split off and take the Oath on my own or wait for her to try again. She has yet to receive a reschedule letter in mail.

Step 1 - print off multiple copies of this 'online' page aka ecas. Make sure today's date and time stamp with url are on the print out.

Step 2 - mail by registered or any other method requiring signature proof of delivery to CIC Sidney and copy (also signed delivery) to the Local Office a letter stating you have not been invited to oath and that the 'abandonment letter' is misdirected or words to that effect. Add to this letter that you await the oath. Include in these letters to CIC proof that there was never an oath notice on ecase. Include too proof of your current address - DL or any other government type proof.

Unless CIC want to admit ecas is flawed (potentially leading to case law issues on notices being delivered) they will call you for the oath.

This is very strange.... better call cic and explain everything,, and ask for advise

this is the time you have to be calm and get some good advise from CIC and if not

than hire a lawyer, if you have not received any letter and your ecas stating in progress

than you have a case... call and find out and do something very fast, further delay will

jeopardy your case , re apply will take another 2 years.

So you missed out this vital information. So do you confirm you were included as a minor in your mother's application? How old were you at application date and how old are you now? What steps did you take as proof that you wanted to be split from your mother's file e.g writing to CIC? What does your mother's ecas/online status state? If a minor how would you have taken the test? Does you mother reside at the same address? Something somewhere doesn't make sense!

When I applied I was 17, the application was sent back since by the time the test could be taken I would have been past 18. I took the test earlier this year at the age of 20 and no I'm currently 21. I was told I could only decide AFTER my mother's second attempt at the test. Only AFTER that was I able to split off and go take the Oath on my own.

One thing you should do anyway, printout the ecas ASAP (with URL date) before the status changed, that can be your proof that no letter sent to you.

Hi Cho - hope you are well. I am going through the same thing unfortunately and wondering if you were able to resolve your issue with CIC? Would be grateful if you can share what you did to rectify your issue

Many thanks
