I have a question about Question 6E in the Adult application form CIT0002.

Question 6E
Write all your Canadian addresses for the last four (4) years, including the postal codes.
If you were residing, employed or attending school outside Canada, you must also list all your foreign addresses, including the postal codes.

Let us assume that during the past 4 years I lived/worked/studied in Canada. However, during this period my employer sent me abroad on a business trip (or I visited my family) for a month. Shall I list the address of the hotel (or family) address where I stayed? It should be noted that during these visits I was still paying my home rent in Canada and my employer paid me my regular salary.

In other words, shall I answer Q6E using

Form1:
From To Address
01-2011 01-2015 Home address in Canada

or

Form2:
From To Address
01-01-2011 30-04-2014 Home address in Canada
01-05-2014 31-05-2014 Hotel (or family) address somewhere other than Canada.
01-06-2014 01-01-2015 Home address in Canada

In regard to the countries that I visited, I either had a visitor visa or it was home country. I did not work or study outside Canada during the relevant 4 years period.

On a more general note, What is the legal definition of the word reside in Question 6E?

Cheers,
Thanks

Generally you should be using Form 1 unless there were longer durations when you were away from Canada for longer than one month as you state.

Visiting family/friends, business trip or vacation travels do not count as residing in another country, they are deemed as short visits upon which you return to Canada as a resident. You state the addresses in Canada where you have lived and note the absences in the online calculator as visits out of Canada.

Thanks OhCanada2015.

Unfortunately, now I am even more confused. I believe that I should stick to Form1. However, I called CIC to ask them which form (1 or 2) I should use and the operator told me to use Form 2!!

What do you guys think?

Cheers,

That's what I did too - used form1. I had travelled 4 times (sometimes longer than 1 month) during my 4 year period but I only listed my primary home address.

Each trip could have taken you to more than one place, even within one particular country. It appears to be impractical to list vacation addresses. As long as your absence record covers it, it should be fine.

Thanks Aspat, this is exactly what I thought. I even asked a couple of friends and they listed only the primary address during the last 4 years. But the CIC's operator answer confuses me.

@ ejamal

go for form1 because it was your primary residence.

The trips that you have spent outside will show in residency calculator.

I hope this information helps!

I was away from Canada for longer than one month twice (2 and 2,5 months). I visited my parents and took care of them because my mother had surgery and second time she fell and broke her hand.
I want to indicate in question 6E only my Canadian address, but I called CIC and operator told me to indicate address of my parents too.
Please, advise what I should do. I would like to send my application tomorrow and I really want to avoid getting it back because of new rules.

The operator is correct. You should mention your parents address. Your case is not a business trip or a summer vacation where you visited your family.

Ejamal is talking non-sense. Follow what coolguysam and aspat have done already. Their applications have been accepted and processed smoothly.
