So there has been a lot of speculation about applying for an Open Work Permit at the same time as the Inland application for spousal sponsorship after they moved it from Vegreville to Mississauga. I've read about CIC call agents saying different things.

I don't know if you've already shared this here, but I know there were still some doubts yesterday on one of the threads, so I thought that this would be helpful:

http://www.cicnews.com/2014/03/work-permits-spousal-sponsorship-applicants-033283.html

"Typically, the immigration office will inform applicants when they are eligible to apply for open work permits. To reduce waiting time, a work permit application may be included with the initial permanent residency application. In this way, the work permit can be issued as soon as the first stage is approved. This method is particularly useful for spouses who are already working temporarily in Canada, because their pending Open Work Permit application grants them ‘implied status’. Under implied status, an applicant can continue to work past the expiration date of their existing work permit, until they receive the results of their pending application."

If only I had known...

Though it is called cicnews, that website is not officially associated with CIC in any way. It is published by the same law firm that hosts this forum, David Cohen's company.

That particular publication does not actually address any of the recent changes that might affect the submission and processing of an OWP app with the inland PR app. It simply repeats the standard info that has been around for years.

I just assumed that an immigration lawyer would know if things had changed. He published the "news" in March 2014.

You'd assume that the official CIC call centre would know the correct official answers.... Enough said...

I can't even count the number of times people have posted here regarding wrong info their immigration lawyers have given.

Not saying in this particular case it's wrong, but I'm still waiting on seeing any info or confirmations directly from CIC.

That's exactly what the CIC call centre has been telling people here for as long as I can remember and for some even in writing. It's the vigilante forum members (and wannabe deportation officials) that have been saying "you can't work, you can't work, this permit or that permit is not extendable . . . " yada yada yada . . .

This whole issue started when CIC call centre agents started telling people with new rules of processing inland apps at CPC-M, they needed to wait until getting stage 1 approval first before applying for OWP.

Exactly! CIC never said you can't submit OWP app along with PR application. It's people on this forum that circulate the rumour around. If you cant help, or dont know for sure, kindly don't make people confused. CIC website is the only reliable source to verify info, everything said here is only hearsay things.

Apparently, this is exactly what they said. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/new-sponsorship-rules-canada-makes-it-even-harder-for-us-t182180.0.html
However, this was long before you joined the forum.

+1

There are a lot of people on this forum who, for no personal gain, help others by sharing the experience they've picked up through their own processes and years of closely attending to immigration issues. Most will NOT say they know 100% how CIC will handle issues, as CIC is quite inconsistent. Instead, they share what they've experiences and the experiences others have shared to try to help forum members gather the information they need to make their own decisions.

Those who were only very, very recently initiated into the insanity that is CIC may not have the scope to understand how complicated issues can be with the limited, often unreliable and inaccurate information we get from our only direct CIC resources: the call centre and the website.

I've had my own experience of being outright lied to by a CIC call centre rep (a rep I spoke to around a week later apologized on CIC's behalf), being given information that was pure fabrication. I trust the senior members on here FAR more than I trust the call centre, and from all I've read of the ineptitude of many lawyers, far more than most of them, as well.

What I can not get in my head is that if you don't call CIC to ASK them about this, then you'll never KNOW that things have changed. That is completely ridiculous. It's like a top secret rule that you need to know about in order to ask about. Know what I mean? If the original poster from that thread back in January 2014 only found out by calling in the first place, what if they had never called? What if you don't look at this forum? They can't expect everyone to know by osmosis.

All I'm saying is, if the website at CIC says so, go by that. If they haven't updated the website, it hasn't come into effect. They can't expect everyone to read CIC's minds.
So apparently it's by a manual on CIC that people were finding out about this OWP in the first place; that hasn't been updated yet. It's still on their website. Go with that.

Where on the CIC website does it say you can submit OWP app with inland app?
