So far this application has cost an arm and a leg:

IELTS: $300
ECA: $230
Medical: $425
Police checks: $80

Total - $1035

x 2 as we are applying as a couple. $2070

Can someone please tell me the CEC application fee?

This number is also detracting from the savings we have to provide for landing in Canada. I almost feel instead of proving we are skilled foreign workers, we are funding third party CIC sponsors.

Thoughts?

I almost didn't see your reply within the block of quote.

I know other countries have different costs, but we are discussing Canada.

Do you know the CEC fee? Has it changed since EE was launched?

don't forget the application fee of $490 per person x2 = $980 :)

honestly this is cheaper than UK/US and Australia/NZ

Ah so it's $490 each, not $550 I read somewhere?

Men: 550 per person

1100 CAD total)

the application fee is $550. then once you get PR there's a Right of Permanent Residency fee of $490. so multiply by two.
Plus the fees to get a bridging work permit if you're already working here are now gone up to $255.

Why do the want another $500 at the end of this??

just the way it is. always has been.
number 2 & 4 here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/fees/fees.asp

It is business)
It is a way Canada earns money!

Ugh. Can I just slip them an extra $1000 now and skip the paperwork? Tbh They should pay us for all this effort!! ;)

Canadian fees is relatively on the lowest spectrum among other immigration programs. Have a look at Australia's fees. For a spouse sponsored PR, you have to pay ~$4800. Yup, it is that high. Canadians do not mooch fees at nearly any opportunity they can grab though; they could have had entry fees for EE to up the barrier for entry; there is also no fees for Provincial nominations too. They just put a fees on other work permits too; but the fees is under $200. Yes, it is a money grab but it is justified too and I feel it is nominal. It could be lot worse.

550 (application fee) + 490 (some other fee you should pay before getting your PR card) = 1040 per person!

1 You should know that under Canadas Financial Administration Act Federal Depts can only charge applicants what it costs to provide the services.
