Hello....
Can anyone point me in the direction of any wording on the Canada Visa Application for a Chinese Family Class that states that any specific documents need to be notarized???
Does anyone have any real experience with this matter???
I have been unable to find anything specific pertaining to any specific documents???

Thank You
LiJuan & Steve

You need to go to your local district notary office 公証處 under the following circumstances:

1) If you (the applicant) and your sponsor were married in China, you need notarise your marriage certificate
2) If you were born in China, you need to notarise your Hukou document
3) I think you also need a notarised copy of the PCC

For more info, download the checklist (IMM3903) from the website http://www.cic.gc.ca/ or http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/china-chine/visas/beijing-pekin/index.aspx

Hello,

My husband is Chinese, and he was told that to get a police certificate he had to go back to the location of his hukou (户口所在地), which is in a different province than the one we live in currently. Is that what is meant by "local" district notary office? (公证处)? We've been living in Shanghai for three years but his hukou is still in Hubei province. He went back to get his police certificate notarized, but the notarization lists the address of his hukou as his residential address, rather than the Shanghai address where we actually live. Will this be a problem?

Also, the document checklist (IMM 3903) it says that any documents not in English or French must include an accurate translation, but it doesn't say that they have to be notarized. Does that mean a translation is fine as long as the translation company is accredited?

Usually in order get the PCC, the applicant must go back to the police station (公安局? - Forgot the exact name) in the location of hukou (户口所在地) which often is in a different province/district than the one live in currently. Any photocopy of your original document should be attested by a notary in your area. When notary attest it by signing with his seal and date, it is notarized. In Shanghai, for example, we can go to Luwan notary services (上海市卢湾区公证处) or notary service in Xuhui district (上海市徐匯区公证处) to have our documents notarized.

toby and I had an earlier discussion about your next question:
