Child tax benefit outside of Canada?

Hi Guys!
I have read some of the post related to CCB but I would like to clarify my situation.

I am married to a Canadian Citizen and we have 2 kids and she is receiving CCB. We were waiting for my PR to be processed and she was living with me for the past 5 months and now as I have got my PR, we are planning to landing in April 2018. This makes her 8 months out of Canada.

Will that be okay for us to leave in April or should we leave before like in Feb/Mar so that she can be back in 6months to Canada to continue with her residency in order to get CCB.

Kindly clarify.

No - you can't. Your children must be with you. You'll have to wait until your children are in Canada before you apply.

Out of curiosity, why do you expect the government to give you money to help you raise your kids when your kids aren't even with you? Of course you can't apply for Child Benefits until your kids are with you in Canada.

As soon as your children are not living in Canada you no longer qualify for CCB. 8 months is not a holiday they have been living outside Canada.

Where did you read that? As long as the children are with the parent and the parent is still "resident for tax purposes" even on vacation, they will still get CCB, if the parent forgot/did not file ITR, the payment will stop.

Ok should be more specific and said they needed to fill out to notify CRA of their extended absence from Canada. They are temporarily living outside of Canada and should have notified CRA so they can determine whether the qualify. We don't know their whole situation. 8 months is a pretty long time to be out of Canada while still qualifying for CCB.

Yes, but in the OP's case, the children were not living with the parent, and were not even in Canada.

I assume that the children are with the parents, also waiting for the father's PR so they can all return to Canada.
If assuming that the children ARE NOT with the parents then they CAN NOT receive CCB.

Believe it is up to CRA to decide and is not quite as simple as all being a resident for tax purposes. Seems like you do have more connections than many residents for tax purposes o you may still qualify. There are several scenarios where children have never been in Canada while their family is claiming resident for tax purpose statud and can't imagine they qualify for CCB. The whole intent of the benefit is to help pay for the high cost of raising a family in Canada. They wouldn't ask you to fill out the form if it was that simple.

By law, it is no more than 10 years. But this depends on if you have taken any actions to settle the debt, which resets the clock.

I claim our daughter because my wife is not a resident of Canada yet (US citizen) my daughter lives with me, she goes to school here, while my wife travels back and forth. I have a full time job but my schedule allows me to drop and pick up my daughter from school. We went on a month holiday vacation (family reunion) in US but my father in law got sick so my wife and daughter stayed in US to be with him longer. I had to return due to my job. No. The child must be living with you to qualify.
