Just to clarify. You submit their citizenship applications at same time as your application as a family application. The children will become canadian when you become canadian yourself.

Hello, though id ask the question here without making a new thread about my situation.


I'm currently in Vancouver (Canadian born father), while my wife finishes up her nursing contract n Hong Kong (non-Canadian no PR ). She is giving birth on the 16th of November, and I cant be present due to work and taking care of our two other children. We plan on her coming with the new baby, and applying for PR when she gets here but i havent gone through the process of applying for Canadian citizenship for a child when im not there. With my two previous children I was in Hong Kong to apply for it as well as temporary passports.

My question is, is it simple as me mailing my original birth certificate to my wife, and her being the applicant and applying in person at the Canadian embassy for the new babies citizenship? Is that possible without me being physically there when she does it? Is there anything else i need to know..

Also when she applies for the Canadian temporary passport, do I simply just need to got to a local PASSPORT office do a pptc 028 and she is able to apply?

Was hoping someone might be able to offer some advice.

My father was born in Canada after 1950 to two parents who were also born in Canada (earlier). My mother is not a Canadian citizen.
I was born to him in the United states after 1950, before 2009.

Regarding questions:
Section 8A regarding applicant's parents. Obviously for parent #2, just say they aren't a canadian citizen, n/a.
For the first parent who is, they don't have a certificate that I'm aware of (they do have a current birth certificate listing their birth in B.C. and both parents). Do I just put his birth certificate number in the "Canadian Certificate no." field?

Secondly, do I have to fill out section 8B (Applicant's grandparents) at all? I (applicant) am the first generation born abroad, and the verbiage (if the applican'ts parent was born outside Canada, was one his/her parents (i.e. one of the applicants grandparents) a Canadian citizen at the time of his/her birth)? My mother was never a canadian citizen, but my father was born inside Canada, so I'm not sure what I check (yes/no) and if I put anything for section 8B at all.

nyguy2, I would suggest filling out the form completely. Don't just ignore sections because you feel they don't apply. So, go ahead and list your maternal grandparents, and where it asks how each became a Canadian citizen, write "not a Canadian citizen." It's better to be complete than to slow down the process by not answering all the questions.

As to the Canadian certificate number, I'm sure they're asking for the number of his citizenship certificate, which he doesn't have (or need). However, I have seen where others put the birth certificate number in that spot and it worked out. So, that's what I would suggest that you do.

It looks like we have a similar background and me and my brothers application has been completed and the certificate is in the mail (only took 2 months from sending in the mail) with no additional requests for information so let me tell you what we did:

For 8A (Canadian parent) Canadian certificate no: we used our fathers Canadian birth certificate number
For 8A (US parent) we wrote N/A in "How did this parent obtain Canadian citizenship", "Canadian certificate no", and in the destination box of the "Did this parent leave Canada" field

Section 8B we wrote N/A under the #8 and left the entire page blank besides that.

We also wrote N/A:
Under the #5 in section 5
Under the #10 in section 10
The top row of boxes in section 6 under Absences from Canada
Section 8A (Canadian parent) In the last 4 text boxes (also selecting the no check box)
Section 8A (US Parent) in the last 3 text boxes (also selecting the no check box)

From all the reading in this thread it always errors on the side of writing N/A if it isn't applicable to avoid them needing to contact you to request more information.

My daughter was just born on the 15th, and I'm still not totally clear on how to do all this from Canada. It says both parents need to be there to apply for a temporary passport, then in the frequently asked questions it says if one parent isn't there you you have to fill out a PPTC 028. Even so how can the guarantor see both parents original ID if i'm not in Hong Kong?

I know how to do it when Im there, ive done it twice. It's just not clear to me how to do it when Im Canada, when my hong kong wife is the applicant.

We have understood that the child will be a canadian citizen and the proof of citizenship will take a lot of time. I'm planning to travel back to canada with the baby after a couple of months she is born. Could anyone please tell me the process for limited validity passport in India and how long would it take?

I have been reading through this post to find my answers but its quite long! And I don't think I saw my answer.

If I am filling out the CIT 0001 proof of citizenship for my newborn daughter am I considered a representative and therefore fill out IMM 5476?

Also, in regards to the identification I am going to send them a copy of her passport and a copy of her Blue Shield health insurance card. Is that what they meant by health insurance or did they mean more like a Quebec RAMQ card that shows birthdate etc.... Because the Blue Shield card only shows her name and her insurance ID#.

From reading the posts I'm confused whether a copy of her Social Security card would be valid as identification.

What would be the the next step to begin his application? Does he have to land first? Shall I do it through the embassy?
