It depends of your annual income.
My son was born in Canada on 2007.and we receive every month 100+279=379$
If your children are not born in Canada you do not have right for child benefit tax.
I have some friends who are PR in Canada but their children was not born in Canada.They were asking for that and they refused them. Stupid law. :-[

$379 is just peanuts in Canada . So transfer a good sum of money before landing without a job as the minimum money required for a family as per chc chart is just not enough.

I'm not that savvy on the child tax benefits but I do not believe your children have to be born in Canada to qualify it doesn't say that the child has to be born in canada, please correct me if this is wrong.

4. Can I get the Canada Child Tax Benefit?
To be eligible, you must meet all the following conditions:

•you must live with the child, and the child must be under the age of 18;
•you must be primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of the child;
•you must be a resident of Canada; and
•you or your spouse or common-law partner must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a protected person, or a temporary resident who has lived in Canada for the previous 18 months, and who has a valid permit in the 19th month

7. When should I apply for the Canada Child Tax Benefit?
Generally, you should apply for the CCTB as soon aspossible after

•your child is born
•a child starts to live with you; or
•you and your spouse or common-law partner meet the eligibility conditions, see question #4.
You should not delay applying as your application is considered late if it includes a period that started more than 11 months ago. If your application is late, you must attach clear photocopies (including both sides of all pages) of the following documents for the entire period:

•proof of citizenship status (for example, a Canadian birth certificate) or immigration status in Canada for you and your spouse or common-law partner, if you have one;
•proof that you resided in Canada, such as a lease agreement, rent receipts, utility bills or bank statements;
•proof of birth for each child; and
•proof that you were the person who is primarily responsible for the care and upbringing of the child(ren).

I think you have got wrong information. It doesn't matter where your childern are borned to get the Child Tax Benefit.I know many people who landed on PR visa 5-6 months ago and in the past, now getting child tax benefit each months. Their children were born outside of Canada. I myself getting it deposited in my wife's account. We have landed 4 months ago and I have 2 childern borned outside of Canada. When we landed here, many people and settlement workers told us to apply for this, I never knew it before.

I have also never heard that the children must be Canadian. Temporary workers can't get it until after 18 months though.
