Hi there!

I am being sponsored by my common-law, we sent the application for my PR along with the extension for an OWP in August 2012, my Work permit expires at the end of october 2012. Unfortunately, the company I was working until a few days go, had to cut off personal and I had to leave the company :(

I've been already doing some interviews and sending my CV since I have Implied Status, Im extremely confused since CIC told me I can still legally work, but with an expired SIN and WP ??? Is there anything I can give my new employer so they know I am legally allowed to work?

HELP!!! Im just at the beginning of my process I was sooo relieved when they told me I can keep on working because I dont know how long my process will take and I cant afford be unemployed for a long period of time!

Hello! Is your work permit just a "regular work permit" ??? with LMO??? If yes, I would suggest to find an employer that will give you an LMO and apply again for a work permit...

Reasons:

even if you you have an implied status, you will lose your health benefits
(I'm from Alberta and this happened to me..)

If you need to apply for a driver's license, credit card you would need a work permit...

Actually I never had an LMO before!

I got my work permit because of a program of studies I did, I was asked to have a paid internship so I got an open work permit! I called CIC and explained the situation, 2 different agents told me yes, you can keep on working.

I live in Quebec and they explained to me that I can meanwhile get a private insurance since I can not renew my Medicare because I need to have a valid SIN.

We maintained our health care on implied status by advising Alberta Health Care and providing them with a copy of the application confirmation and filing receipt. They replied in about a week saying our health care was continued and to advise them when permanent residence was granted.

You can work with an expired SIN as long as you provide your employer proof of your implied status, however finding a new employer may be difficult as they may just not want to deal with it and it's not entirely clear if they can hire people on implied status.

I do not know Quebec's health care system but in Alberta a valid SIN is not important to health care. What you need is proof of status i.e.. study permit (lots of students do not have SIN's), work permit etc.

good for you! ;) As for myself, I have to apply for a new work permit under my employer in order to renew my healthcard. I tried giving them proof that I applied for PR under spousal sponsorship but it did not work... they say the rule is I have to have a valid status not an implied in order to retain my healthcard.... they extended it for 3 months but that's it.

When we requested the extension we thought that we would only get 3 months also but their letter gave no time limit and just said our coverage will continue. In the end our PR came in about 2 months later.

OK OK we went far from the main question!

I dont really care if I can continue with my medicare, since I am fully covered by another insurance I have.

My question is, since I will be looking for a new job and already did some interviews, How can I prove I have an implied status?? I dont have any letter yet that my PR and work permit application have been received by CIC.

Have any of you been in the same situation?

Did you do the application online? You get immediate proof with an online application.

Were you on a post graduate work permit? If so, is no implied status for post graduate work permits because they are non-extendable.

Thanks for clarifying. No - you cannot continue working past the expiry of your co-op.

If you wish to work before you receive AIP and your open work permit is approved, you'll need to find an employer who can offer you a job and is willing to obtain an approved LMO. You can then apply for a closed work permit.
