changing from Quebec to Ontario while residency is nearly complete

Hi all,

I applied for permanent residency through Quebec about 1.5 years ago so I'm just waiting on the decision to be made. As it turns out I have been offered a job in Ottawa starting in May. My concern is that if I move from Quebec before I get residency it could screw up my application. Should I change my address online or not? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

How did you apply for your PR? if it's through spousal sponsorship, it doesn't matter - it's a federal program and you can move to Ontario without issues.
If you have applied through a specific immigration stream, then it depends on the conditions.

Yes I applied through spousal sponsorship. I'm just worried cause everything in Quebec seems to more of an issue. Are you 100% sure there would be no complications if I changed province before the completion of permanent residency?

It really doesn't matter if you move and has no effect on your application.

If you applied outland they will mail COPR to your home. So you just need to change your address once you move.

My application was done inland. I just spoke to CIC. I've been told I would have to contact Vegreville to notify them of my plan to change province and they will send me additional forms to fill out. The reason being that Quebec has approved me & done certain checks that federal didn't do, so now they would have to do them checks!! Sounds so confusing!

Other than paperwork due to it being Quebec, you don't have to actually worry about it affecting your eligibility or anything. A slight delay in processing will be the only issue you face.

Our lease isn't up on our apt in Montreal until end of June so it'll still be my address so I think I'll leave it for now & see if the paperwork comes through by then. After the decision has been made how long & what is the process afterwards? (assuming it's approved)

for inland, once a decision is made you will be given an appointment to officially "land as a PR" at one of the CIC offices. Waiting time vary depending on your place of residence, as it depends how busy the CIC offices in your area is.
