Here I need your advice please. My 4 years will complete on October 9. Should I apply under the 4 years law or wait for October 11 and apply under the new one?

I would apply under the old rule, only if you already filled out the forms.

Thanks for your reply , but if somone do a police certificate before he left his home country and never go back to that country , would that be ok ?

Police certificates would usually expire after 6 months.

I have a few questions:

1) Is there any indication of processing times for the citizenship application now that Bill c-6 is passed? I heard from one immigration consultant that they expect the wait to be about 12 months and another said 24 months. Where are they getting this info from? Or is it just rumours?

2) At the moment I am about 3.25/5 years in Canada, so I am definitely eligible to apply on Oct 11. I have received a job offer in Asia for a 2-year contract. I have every intention of coming back after 2 years. My potential new employer has said I can come back to Canada as needed for the citizenship test, oath taking etc. Would you recommend that I take this job? Or do you think that this may have a consequence on my application for citizenship. The start date is March 2018.

3) Does anyone know if transit in the US counts as a day toward my 183 days in 4 years? For example, I traveled from Canada to China via Washington D.C. My transit time was a few hours. Should I count that as a day in the US?

Hey Spyfy, I'm looking for some clarification on this part of the application:

Provide photocopies of the biographical pages of all passports and/or travel documents (valid and cancelled) for the six (6) year period immediately before the date of your application, or since you became a permanent resident, whichever is more recent.

If there are any gaps in time between validity periods of your passports or travel documents during the past six (6) years, or since you became a permanent resident, whichever is more recent, provide an explanation in the space provided

I did not have a passport/travel document before I became a PR and only recently have been issued a Travel Document by Passport Canada. There is a two year gap between when I received my PR and when I received a Travel Document. Is this something I need to thoroughly explain in the application?

Almost everybody who moved to canada 3 yrs back need Police certification from where ever they moved from because before 3 years, their 4th year was in country of origin, even if they haven't visited their origin country in last 3yrs.

I don't think they are going to keep this request because that was related to the 183 days presence in Canada and the 4 year residency requirement. Now why didn't they mention it in bill c6. Well it's not a major change and that was not even voted for or even mentioned in bill c24. So why they should mention it in c6?

Although many stated it is not related to residency, I don't buy it. We will see on the 11 Oct. if it's still there, then I'm fu@@ed

I have a Masters Degree from a Canadian University- English- Do I still need to give an English language exam- for my language requirements or the masters degree would suffice my language requirements? I want to be on the safe side and give the exam? Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe I'm wrong but between 11 october 2012 and 5 june 2014, as she was not PR yet, a day of presence counts only for a half, so 603 - 153 = 450 ----> 450/2 = a maximum of 225 days of physical presence should be included? Is it right?

Yes you are right. But after PR she already have 950 days and only needs 150days from pre PR stay, which can be counted in any way.

I've said again and again that the four year threshold is based on section 22(1) of the citizenship act which was NOT changed by bill c-6. It's not a matter if they made it a big thing or not. It wasn't changed. It literally says "four years" there still. The Act does not require IRCC to ask for police certificates, it is their decision how they enforce the no-crimes-in-four-years-rule. The regulations were changed around the same time as c-24 and they switched from a signed declaration to police certificates.

If anything, IRCC could drop the requirement of police certificates completely, but going from four to three years makes no sense.

For number 3, do I have to count them on my physical presence calculator? For example, AM was spent in Canada, Afternoon was spent in the US and evening was flying to China?

First off I would like to thank Spyfy for his time spent to keep us informed and his/her diligence to keep this thread clean.

As for the time spent in Canada; in our case it no longer matters as my wife reached the amount of days required on September 21st using the 4 years rule. What is important to us is the language requirements and citizenship testing. My wife like so many people from less developed countries was not able to attend school when she was younger. Even though here spoken English is very good she struggles with writing and reading English. She is presently 53 years old. We have made the decision to wait until she no longer has to have language requirements or testing to save her the embarrassment of possibly not being able to pass.

My questions is: Can we apply without the language requirement and testing when she is 54 or 55?

Together in one package. but both have to fill their own application form and checklist.

Yes you should explain that. They will understand but be as detailed in your explanation as possible.
