Change in Name

Hello Friends,

I have received my PER on 01.12.2014 and waiting for MR soon.

We have changed name of our 4yr daughter. Should I change it in passport and update to CIC before I receive MR. I can apply for reissue of passport in Tatkal quota and new passport can be issued with in one week time.

Pls suggest friends...

i think you should inform VO and change it. just imagine when you get MR,what are you going to do with her oldname?

i think it will delay the process but not that long because it is just a change in name for kid.
just prepare your support documents in advance.

So where exactly did you change the name.

Is it in Birth Certificate?

It will be easy to correct things earlier than waiting till landing.

I had some mistakes in my Name when they issued my visa and copr.
when i checked with delhi CHC they requested to return the visa and copr to make the corrections...

luckly i got it corrected in 2 weeks, but there are ppl in this forum who waitied for 2-5 months time... its purely based on luck...

So my recommendation is don't keep things from our side which can delay the overall processing...... until we land...

I am recommending you to be safe, there are lot many people like me who had to wait for 5 years to get the visa...So don't take chances.....God knows when the processing slows down.

I am not sure how you correct the name once you land in Canada.

This was not specific to me almost all people who applied in March-June 2010 had to face this situation. Almost all of them used to log into this forum daily.....

initially it was due to heavy backlog at CIC for pre 2008 applicants.. later by 2012 they returned all before 2008 backlog applications.

Then we had almost an year of Strike at CIC visa offices in 2013... so even though I got my initial medical in Dec 2012... the entire duration was lost in the strike.

after the strike they started giving priority to new applications compared to the older ones (ie, 2013 applications)

At last in Aug 2014 I got remedical and things were pretty fast after that..

But I think you guys do'nt have to worry too much..... people are getting Visa Pretty fast nowadays...

But I have not changed my daughter's name on birth certificate or on any other legal documents.

If I change her name in passport then new passport number will be issued and I have to update to CIC and I am afraid that it may delay the process as I am waiting for my MR now. It is now 2 months from my PER mail.

I asked to my uncle who lives in Canada and he said you can change her name after landing in Canada. Once she gets her PR card then you can apply for her name change and new PR card will be issued with in 4-6 weeks time.

What do you say?
