Hi!

My boyfriend and I are planing to get married this month, he’s a French citizen that came here through a working holiday visa, he’s about to send his permanent residency papers this week and just sent an application for a closed work permit with the company he works for (. We're not married yet, we're still gonna drop the papers at the Palais de justice but we're asking for a June date because it's also our anniversary month. I’m here on a visitor visa and he's not a citizen so we have some doubts, I hope someone can helps us

  • Does he need to inform the government of the change in his civil status? If so, does this affect in any negative way his permanent residency process?
  • Should he also notify in the closed work permit application?
Thanks!

- Once he gets married he must notify IRCC and add you to his ongoing PR application. This is mandatory. No negative impact apart from increasing the overall processing time it will likely take to process the application.
- No notification needed on the work permit.

Hi! Thanks for answering, because we’re in Quebec, does this means I also need a certificat de selection de quebec?

Which PR program is he applying under? If one of the Quebec programs, then you need to post any further questions to the Quebec Skilled Worker section of the forum.
