Hello,

I've searched the forum but could not find an answer to my question: Has anyone obtained a "Certified True Copy" in New York?

Public Notaries are, by state law, not allowed to certify a copy of a document as a true copy. I'm applying for the Quebec Selection Certificate, and the three things I need certified is a copy of my diploma, birth certificate, and W2's.

My college only provides transcripts (no certified copies of the diploma). My embassy says they do not certify birth certificates. The W2's I may be able to get an extra copy.

For those of you who are / were in NYC, what did you do?

Thank you.

I only found that the notary public can give you a notarized affidavit that the copy is true, but it's not equivalent to a certified true copy, so I don't know if it would work.
Can you travel to Pennsylvania for the certification? There, the notaries have that authority. Just throwing my two cents!

That's what I've found too, and seems like it's the only option here. I'm trying to avoid travelling because I don't have a car :/
