My wife and I got married in 2015 and it was a Civil wedding in the Philippines. This coming May, we're going home to the Philippines to have a Church wedding (we're both perm residents btw). Question is, how do we go about getting that cert to marry or do we even need it? after the fact that we originally got married in the Philippines anyway? Thanks!

I am not sure about the process in Philippines. however, the marriage certificate should be issued by the government authority.

In India, the marriage ceremonies at temples etc are not considered legal unless they are registered at the local court or the marriage is done in the court. CIC will only accept the legal marriage certificate.

When you say you were married in 2015 it means that you have secured already a marriage license and your marriage was already registered at the NSO. You would not need anything. The church wedding is just a ceremony and does not bear any legal weight because you were married already. You do not need the certificate to marry because you are not Canadian citizens only PRs.
