I realize that any discussion on this topic is necessarily speculative since we are awaiting info on Express Entry, however I'd like to hear people's views...

I find it hard to see how CEC can fit with the Express Entry criteria considering that it is a Visa you apply for based on work you have already completed. You can apply for CEC under the current system even if you are unemployed and have no job offer, as long as you have accumulated the year of work in the allowed timeframe. This seems to negate the whole idea of Express Entry as I understand it, which is that employers choose you from a pool before you can apply. I suspect for CEC under Express Entry, this whole step (employers selecting you from a pool of applicants) will be dispensed with completely and we will be able to apply right away, based on work already done. Hopefully the process will be more or less as it is now, but faster. Maybe this is optimistic, or I'm misunderstanding the new system. Any thoughts?

Here's my understanding:

Express Entry is a "points-based system" where applicants will be ranked according to points. Now I'm not sure if these points will be made public or not (as in the FSW).
Now if you are chosen by employers OR have a job/job offer, then your points will be higher, and you will have a higher chance of being invited.
On another note, you also have a higher chance of being selected by an employer given your Canadian experience => higher points for you.

Aside from the manner of processing (you being invited to apply instead of submitting an application), I don't see how CEC cannot fit here. Take note that before you can even go under EE, you need to qualify under CEC (or any of the other streams) since once you are invited, you will apply under one of these.

My understanding is this:
Express Entry is one more screening step before CEC and screen out "people with better chance to succeed". So qualified CEC Applicants with permanent positions (and especially those occupations that Canada lacks) will be flavored against people with part-time / temporary work exps. and not working at the moment of apply, because the former is likely to be more stable and is better for Canada (At least in the eyes of CIC). Right now, they are going into the same queue and considered the same.

This goes inline with their recent announcements that they want immigrants that will succeed in Canada, helps the economy and give more chance to domestic worker first. Suck for us applicants because we don't know the criteria (we aren't even sure if it's gonna be a point-based system yet) and its so nontransparent, raise the uncertainty to us

I believe invitations are given to people with highest score first, then goes lower if there are seats left. So it also depends on demand and supply of seats too.
