Hi

Planning to apply under CEC, But iam a non resident in canada and curently stay in US.

When it comes to fee payment if i give my US credit card details in fee payment form (5620) - will that be accepted and wud the deduction from my us credit card happen in CAD?
Or
Certified cheque/Draft in CAD is only option.

Pls help on the above clarification.

CEC applicants from outside Canada would have had the same situation and your response should help.

Thanks
Ram

Payment method options

Complete the Fee Payment Form – Application for Permanent Residence (IMM 5620) and include it with your application to the CIO. On-line payments are not accepted by the CIO.

In Canadian funds only, you may pay:
•by certified cheque, bank draft or money order made payable to the “Receiver General for Canada.” or
•with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express)

Based on comment in red, I believe the certified cheque/draft in CAD is the only option.

I would think if your Credit card works internationally, CEC could charge the card for the CAD amount and it would appear on your statement as the converted USD amount. The form has a generic address of payer field and does not really insist on a Canadian billing address..

I would suggest calling call center with all your questions and doubts you have at the end of the form filling process. And get all clarified. Include this question as well.
It worked for me and I had 5 different questions that finally assured what I did on the forms was right..

You should be able to get a bank draft in CAD dollars from some US banks. What they will do is collect the equivalent from your US account and the amount in CAD dollars will be drawn on a Canadian bank. I've gotten a US draft from Canada before.

I'm reading online that you can get a bank draft in CAD dollars from Chase bank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America.

Can I purchase a foreign draft instead?

Currently, foreign drafts are not available for ordering on line. Drafts are available for ordering at all full service Bank of America banking centers.

You should have no problem paying the fee with a US credit card. CIC will charge in CAD, but the amount will be converted to USD on your statement. Be aware that your credit card may charge an extra -~3% for the foreign currency transaction.

Also, you should CALL your credit card company and notify them that this transaction will occur within the next 2-3 months - sometimes a credit card company will refuse the charge (in the name of fraud prevention), in which case CIC would return your application for non-payment.

Having said that, I find it difficult to believe that any major US Bank with international services (Citibank, BOA) cannot sell you a bank draft in CAD...

Hi SenoritaBella,

Strange the link you provided clearly says " Foreign Drafts are available for ordering at all full service Bank of America banking center"
I checked with BOAM & Chase bank location in person ,they said they cannot issue a draft in CAD, May be with this info i should approach them again and see if they can provide.

All the info are very usefull

Thanks
Ram G
