CEC application - help needed

Hi All,

i am a new user to this forum and would appreciate any advice with applying for CEC.

My situation is that i worked at a restaurant part time under NOC 6322 and racked up 700 hours there.
Due to covid i was let go and now work somewhere else full-time under NOC 5421 (designer & illustrators) under 6 month contract(ends in november)

My permit expires in October, but i wont have the hours i need to make up 1560 until mid October. i plan on extending to cover the remaining period of my contract. i have everything else needed for my application (police checks, english results, etc )

Question 1)
can i still submit my application for CEC ? and if yes, when should i do that

Question 2)
Should i apply for an extension first and then put in my application for CEC so that i have implied status and not lose out on work hours OR should i apply for CEC first and then put in an application for extension of work permit.

Also if anyone would be kind enough to break down the entire process of applying from start to finish and how long things took each time.

1) I'm not sure I understand this question. Are you asking about submitting your Express Entry profile? You can't submit your CEC application until your Express Entry profile has been selected out of the pool (received ITA) due to having enough points to meet the cut off. You cannot submit your application after receiving ITA until you have at least one year of work experience in Canada (assuming you are applying under CEC). Also make sure you are counting your work experience correctly. You don't just need 1560 hours. You must also have 52 separate weeks where you worked at least 30 hours per week.
2) On what basis will you be applying to extend your PGWP? Note that if you apply to extend your PGWP without qualifying, IRCC typically rejects your application as incomplete. If this happens, you lose implied status and cannot count any time worked after the expiry of your PGWP towards PR. You need to have an approved LMIA to be sure that you'll benefit from implied status and be able to count this time towards PR.

i actually worked full-time hours and not part time.

1) i have not created my express entry profile just yet but will this month. i know i need the ITA To start my CEC application. i am more so asking about the process of creating my EE profile and being selected from the pool. and the average time to get the ITA. based on my calculations i have a score of about 494

2) i was under the impression that CEC need not be continuous employment, which is the case with FSW. i have a two month gap(covid) in between employment.

3) I would be applying for a bridging open work permit

Your first priority should be applying for the work permit extension, not just for the remaining experience hours but also because you need to maintain a legal status in Canada throughout the PR process. Depending on the situation getting an extension can be difficult.
Meanwhile if you haven´t already, you should already create a profile on Express Entry to secure an ITA by October in case you have enough CRS points.

You can only apply for BOWP after you accept ITA and get AOR from your CEC application and not before, so you cannot complete your remaining work experience needed for CEC with BOWP, you need to find some other way.

When you work full-time hours, you don't need to count them, just the number of weeks worked. (If for some reason you count hours anyway, you cannot count more than 30 hours in a given week). So please indicate the number of weeks you worked full-time.

It does not need to be continuous, but obviously that 2 month gap does not count as employment.

As indicated, you cannot do this until you get an ITA and submit your eAPR.

Are you currently on a PGWP? If yes, you will have to find another way to get a new work permit. LMIA or IEC permit are pretty much your two options (not sure if they are still processing these during the COVID-19 emergency).

Oh that’s interesting. So by your response I should only count the weeks and not the hours ?

between my old job and my new job , I have amassed 53 weeks of working full time as of today

You only need to count hours if some of your weeks are part time.

If you have 53 full time weeks you are good to claim a year of work experience in Canada.

As said above, you won't be able to apply to extend your work permit until after you have been selected out of the Express Entry pool (received ITA) and submitted your complete application. Hopefully you have around 470 points so that you are selected quickly / soon.
