Exactly this is what I am going through. The weather is so unpredictable that it made you feel stressed. I am trying to cop up here by going out everyday, trying to make some friends but still my mind is telling me to get out of here. I will surely check with university for student councilor, thanks for the reply man. It feels good to know that it will pass and everything will be alright.
I would suggest you don't do this. Give some time you will feel better, try exploring new places, make friends and use social media.

Hang in there, bud, you’re going to make it! I think a lot of us have experienced that homesickness at some point in our Canadian education journey. And I know exactly the feeling.

Coming from a tropical country, describing my first Ontario winter as brutal would be an understatement. But, as you go along you’d get used to it. One time I was out in a snow storm with a fellow international student (we’re from different countries) trying to look for a part time job. Up until our graduation, we were laughing at that experience. We were also the butt of jokes for a few weeks by our other friends. Then summer came and made me wish for winter.

It may be harder to make new friends right now because of the pandemic. However, Canada is slowly opening up. Once everything is back to “normal” and face-to-face meetings are again implemented, you’d have tons of activities. Your campus alone would have lots of extracurricular activities and volunteer opportunities that you would be tied up the rest of your academic program. Making friends is easy, both from fellow international students as well as domestic students. Heck, even your professors could be your friends even after you finish your program.

Also, wait for other forum members who are going to your DLI or are already there. Reach out and make plans to connect. I met a couple of forum members at my DLI, and even those who went to other DLI. Right now you can keep yourself busy and your mind occupied by doing craft works or painting. You can even start a youtube blog documenting your journey. Just don’t give up. Life is hard. It’s never meant to be easy. But like the rest of us, you’re going to be just fine. :)

I would say, we should motivate him, and you also know its not really easy to get back home and then apply for some other place. Many students living there in NL, Saskatchewan, Quebec and Manitoba. These province has the coolest cities in Canada. He should give himself a little bit time, everything will be alright. Body take time to settle down with the environment.
I did not say to come back and apply study permit all over again. I understand that he has valid study permit at least for a year so come back or just change the location and go some other place where mostly his community people living there or any relative or family friends like that It will be easy for him to study in this way.

To be honest struggle is real but he can hang on, give it time. I can also understand NL, they get severe winter, rain and windy. To add to food, friends, change of lifestyle.... that depression. Unfortunately OP didn't do research about NL I suppose and he found himself in that situation. Im from tropical, but im considering buying Airconditional unit before next summer. Like seriously I hate warm weather, that I lived in for almost all my life. Hang on buddy, focus on your studies, finish it and welcome to BC if want good weather. You'll find good Paki community here too, with lots of local joints to take you home for a while. warming if you don't like Rain, don't move to BC... it can rain almost everyday sometime, snow once or twice a year or no at all,

I agree with you on the research part. I've come across numerous posts where agents have promised as though they are sending them to heaven directly where there is only joy. It is far from true! I have studied in London before and the weather for most part of the year is gloomy and rainy. I know the challenges and exactly how it feels but for me before I even took the flight I mentally was aware of the road ahead. It makes life so much more easy when you set the right expectations.
