Hi everyone,

I have applied to sponsor my American wife (outbound) for PR status in Canada.

A little background on us-- we are both well educated (wife and I hold Masters degrees with great work experience) I have a well paying job in Canada to support until she finds employment.

Our application was received by CIC July 27th and so far the only update has been that I'm eligible to sponsor and the medical was received.

We were very careful to make sure our application had everything that was required and more. The application was sent directly to the Ottawa Pilot Project rather than Buffalo for processing.

Does anyone that has applied around the same time with similar scenarios have any more updates?

When can we expect her request for her passport?

Thanks so much!

My app was received on August 2 and I have the same thing showing up in ECAS. If I don't hear anything by December 15, then I'm going to order my GCMS notes. CIC already dropped the ball by failing to give me or my boyfriend an AOR. I don't trust them enough at this point to sit around and wait things out.

Hey thanks for the reply. Forgive my ignorance. What is GCMS and AOR? You said your boyfriend--does this mean you are coming in as a fiancé? Thanks for your answer!

Canada has no fiance class. They must either be common law or conjugal.

Hey canamera,

Welcome to the forum. We're in the same boat -- I am sponsoring my American husband and we applied in early July. Our status is showing the same thing - application received, medicals received. We haven't heard anything yet, and don't expect to hear anything for quite awhile. CIC just updated their processing times (usually done quarterly), and unfortunately, it shows the Ottawa Pilot as taking 12 months (to process 80% of the applications): http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

HI Tavora,

That is so disheartening. We were hoping (as I'm sure you are) to be in that 20%. I wonder what to expect next and when?

Yes, we can hope! It looks like some people who applied in March/April are getting passport requests, so we could be looking at 8-9 months. My husband is going to come up in February 2013 to wait out the rest of the process. It would be nice if we were done by then, but we may be waiting for another month or two after he gets here.

If they don't need any further documentation from you because you had a solid application, it's possible that you won't hear anything from the Ottawa Pilot until you get the passport (or scanned copy) request.

Scyla is right, there is no fiance class. My boyfriend is my common law partner since I've been living with him in Canada for over a year and a half. GCMS are notes on your file (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/form-imm5563.asp) and AOR stands for acknowledgement of receipt. Basically it means they have received your file and usually it includes the fact that the sponsor has been approved and your file is being sent to the VO it is supposed to be processed at.

Canamera and Tavora,

We are in exactly the same situation. I'm Canadian sponsoring my U.S. spouse. We've been married for 14 years. I have a job in Canada is she is with me currently on visitor status. We applied via outland process in July 2012 and file is with CPP-Ottawa. I received notice that I was approved as a sponsor in August 2012. Status on CIC website says PR application and medical were received.

We also are in process of extending her visitor status.

Let's keep this thread alive with any updates! I've been monitoring the April 2012 application thread ....there are reports that some Ottawa office applicants are getting to PPR stage now. By that time line, perhaps July applicants will be processed by March 2013!!

If you want, there is a thread already for Canadian going through Ottawa / US outland sponsorship - it will give you an idea of who is getting their visa more or less http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/us-outland-applicants-thread-t106068.1215.html
Good luck,
Sweden

Im an American applying through Ottawa, and I sent my application in mid-May. I got my ppr yesterday. I freaked out when I saw the 12 month processing time too, but it seems to be moving a bit faster than it shows. Hang in there.

Thanks! Im not sure when it was transferred, but Im assuming it was Aug 24, 2012, which is when the AOR came in. A few others in the May thread are reporting getting their PPRs also, so its moving along faster than 12 months it seems! Hope you get yours soon!
