Thanks so much. Also one more question - what is validity of the visa issued to the baby?
6 months, immigration officer here in toronto told us to get it renewed if required from within Canada until he gets his PR.

The main pain is getting TRV/TRP as visa offices often don't grant TRV or TRP. especially when you're outside Canada for longer.

Oh I see..not sure what happens our our case. We have been granted the PR in Jun 2011 and besides the landing we are outside canada, but now planning to move permanently. Thanks again for the information.

Write a decent cover letter explaining immigration officer that you're willing to settle permanently in Canada and why it was not possible to stay in Canada (Genuine reasons). If they're convinced, you're likely to get TRV/TRP.

All the best!

Hi I just wanted to include some additional information regarding PR for baby born outside canada.

Info:
My wife and I are both PR`s and have been staying in India. We also had a baby while in India and made plans to move to Canada from India.

After a info search and conversation with few members here (thanks to Awebus & Colinmeli), we figured that the direct way to do this is through a TRV visa.

Process:

1)Just prepare and gather the required documentation

-Check the official website for current info and also talk to VFS if you for more info
(http://www.vfsglobal.ca/canada/india/contact_us.html)
-Documents that I submitted were Baby`s Passport, birth certificate, photo, PR photo copies, coverletter, bank
statement printout, coverletter and documents that possibly substantiated claims made in my coverletter (eg; my
wifes bond letter with employer)

2) Coverletter:
- Explain reason for your stay in India. From what I understand try to avoid reasons related to business
responsibilities.
- You can focus on contract terms with your employer, your wifes educational program commitments, medical
reasons etc.
- Also, one smart thing to do is to mention that, incase of denial TRV visa for your baby, you can request them to
consider the application for TRP (Temporary resident permit)

3) Form filling:
- Although its pretty direct, I went to the VFS office to get assistance on filling forms. The service fee for that was I
think less than Rs 300 and its worth every penny.
- For reason for travelling, I mentioned "accompanying parents"
- The VFS rep suggested we apply for Multiple entry as its the same fee

4) One week after submitting our application, we received a request to submit medicals. This is straight forward, just go to the panel doctor and they will measure babys head size, length, weight etc and send it to CIC. Most of the doctors can transmit this info directly. So check if they can electronically transfer all details to the consulate directly when you setup your appointment.

5) Five days after submitting our medicals, our baby`s passport was dispatched to the VFS center. I went there to collect it and noticed that our baby was granted a multiple entry visa for one year.

So, I am sure there are lot more things to come and will keep you guys posted on it.

For any info that you think is not available online, let me know. For any documentation, form filling work etc contact VFS directly.

Uh oh. It sounds like you are in breach of your PR residency obligation. If you are in breach, then if you apply for TRV or try to sponsor your child, they will check your residency obligation and will find that you are in breach and then can move to revoke your PR. If you have not applied for anything yet, you need to think very carefully how you want to handle this.

The baby would be issued a visa with a date to enter Canada by. Then once you are at the point of entry the visa duration will be decided, if there is no date then it is 6 months from the date of entry.

It is very easy to apply for an extension.

hi Awebus,

We did our landing this april and received Canadian PR cards. We had a baby this Oct in India and
both baby and herself are in India at present and I'm in US. We have to apply for TRV/TRP and gathered all required docs by looking at CIC and forums. Looking at various places in forums, I see you were able to get the TRV for your child. In this regard, I have few questions

1. Can I get the covering letter addressed by my wife or does it have to be from me?
2. As I do see that possibility of getting TRV is very high and it might have to be through TRP - so in this case if my cover letter states to consider it through TRP incase of TRV not being possible, do I have to submit any additional docs for TRP and a fee for it or I can proceed only after receiving a response from the officer?
3. Last but a needed one.. I'm also looking for a sample cover letter to present my case. Would it be possible for you to share the cover letter you presented so that would be helpful for me to make necessary changes and get the trv/trp processed?
