Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

Final Update:

• Planned travel date August 19
• Mailed April 11
• Received in Gatineau April 12
• CC charged May 10
• Numerous follow ups on line - no response
• Numerous phone calls - always "under examination"
• Asked MP to assist July 22
• Called 1-800 # on August 1 - Advised "in production"
• Passport issued August 2 in Gatineau
• Passport received August 5 in Toronto
• Birth certificate still outstanding [but already received duplicate from province of ON]

Not sure if the MP involvement helped - but things did seem to move quickly after we contacted them. Good luck to everyone still waiting. This forum was very helpful!!

How did you get a duplicate birth certificate?. Is it the long birth certificate with parental information. Please help me, I am in desperate situation to apply for visa. Thank you

I just went on the Ontario gov. website and requested a replacement birth certificate. I paid for express service and had it in 3 days. Here is the link for ON https://www.ontario.ca/page/get-or-replace-ontario-birth-certificate

As I recall, you have the option to get the long or short form.

I have sent status request twice. No reply.

I believe no one will read your complaint as well.

Try calling them and ask for your certificate. That may help.

The agent on the phone I spoke with said no one has been really replying on those requests. They've been focusing on processing the apps is what they said. I asked since it had been 4 weeks since I requested a status.

Received quebec:april 8th
Printed :1st aug
Delivered :aug 5th

But did nt received birth certificate,do have copy of birth certificate,can anybody suggest

To apply India visa
1.copy of birth certificate can work (i do have statement of live certificate as well) or,
2.Should i order replacement birth certificate

Please suggest

Apply directly to Gatineau rather than “service canada office” instead as all they do is fwd it to Gatineau headquarters

Thank you so much for your reply. I do have the short one in my hand . I want the long one for visa. Website says express service currently not available for long form. Also it says once I apply a new one old birth certificate is invalid. I am going to wait for one more week and if I didn't get it by then going to apply for a replacement one.

If you are applying in postal you only need copy. I applied for OCI in postal with all the documents copy and approved. I called BLS customer care with all my questions and they were helpful. But for my newborn I didn't take birth certificate copy when I applied for her passport. The biggest mistake I ever did. Now I don't have time to apply for OCI or even for visa not sure

I received my original documents back today and there is a note with that saying my passport is delivered to me by courier. However I have not received my passport yet, has anyone experienced anything similar?

can you provide your timeline. There was another member who posted something similar but their note said passport has already been delivered or will be delivered by courier

Hmmm. Can somebody explain how these numbers change for applications received versus passports issued for the month of April negative 6 processed

June and July had a good return of passports issued vs applications received .

They have returned my Citizenship Certificate in the mail.

Applied for my First Canadian Passport by mail in late May. I am still waiting for my Passport

1. Do we need an appointment to go to Service Canada for in-person applications?
2. I am planning to apply for my first passport in September - would processing times improve by then, theoretically (considering vacation crowd would have dropped in numbers)?

Either apply in person at a passport office (with travel proof)
Or if applying by mail, don’t go to service canada, just mail xpresspost to passport office Gatineau directly. It’s necessary these days to indicate a travel date(even if not traveling).

remember to keep copies of your documents (if sending originals)….
