Hi Guys,

One of the documents in the checklist is 'any valid Canadian travel document issued to you'.

I assume if it is my first Canadian passport and I don't have any Canadian travel documents, I can just skip that requirement.

Do I need to explain it in a letter? Please advise.
Just check off "no". No need to write a letter of explanation.

I read at least two accounts that in-person counters in passport offices are not busy. If this is the case across the board, this means they are wasting resources by putting many idle agents doing little during the day. No wonder in-mail option takes this long.
I was in a Service Canada office in my city a couple days ago. It was not busy at all. There were about 11 counters but just half of them was opened. I guess the rest of employees were still working from home. It is a waste of resources indeed

Hopefully you will get your passport next week. I applied one week after you. I hope to get some progress during the next week.

Congrats. I'm surprised that they work on weekends. When I called last week a guy told me that they don't work on weekends. Wish you get your passport soon.

I think my experience might be useful to some applicants:
My residence address, the city in which my guarantor signed my documents, and the city from which I mailed out my application, were 3 different places. My guarantor didn't get a call, nor was I asked for any explanation.

Update:
Citizenship certificate received: March 11.
Passport: not yet
Same here. I don't understand why they can't send documents and the new passport together. Doesn't it cost more money for them and more anxiety for us? I have trip Thursday morning. Have 3 full days to receive my passport. If it doesn't, then there goes my trip. :(

There could be compliance and security reason. If canada post miss the package then everything will be lost so risk is minimum by sending 2 separate packages. Imo
