Canadian Passport - Mail-In Application Timelines

Hi, I applied in person for my sons’s passport on April 7th at the service Canada office (Richmond hill, ON) .. today was supposed to be my expected mail out date but when I finally got through to a passport office agent, she said they haven’t even Started processing my file yet. She told me to call next week to request a transfer to my local passport office and we need to travel on May 27th. I am worried that I won’t be able to talk to an agent next time I call, because it took me over 40 attempts (over a span of 3 days) to reach an agent today. Any advise on how I can speed up this process? Also anyone have any idea what date applications they are processing now.

Anju, keep trying. We have similar timeline. We mailed on 3rd april. If your travel is on 27 May. Then u can transfer file Tomorrow on 12th because mine is 26 and they transfered my file Today. 27 will be 10 buisness days away if we consider public holiday on 23rd.
Also keep calling. I was calling for lst 3 days and almost 200 times and my call went through on all this 3 days. U have to do non stop and hang up when it says, “ for general inquiries..”

hey all!!
I applied in-person at a regular service Canada centre on April 4th. I put a travel date on the application as I travel on the 21st of may. I am calling them tomorrow right at 7:30 to get an update on my passport as I'm worried that they haven't even processed it. Has anyone been to the dt toronto location using the urgent pick up? If I have not received my passport by Tuesday the 17th I will be going into the dt passport centre to get urgent pick up and pay the $110 fee. Will I be guaranteed to get the passport or will I be turned away? What if my passport is in the mail when I go to the urgent pick up? And it does not deliver before I go on my trip. Can I cancel the one in the mail and get an urgent pick-up one?

Agent said the office will call if they rejects the file. If they accepts, they will call same day or a day prior of picking up passport. So for our file, agent mentioned date to make PP ready between 20th-24th May. He said expect them to call kn 19th or 20th. There will be extra fees for self pickup which is i guess 25$ and 45$ for something else which they will wave if it is already more than 20 business days of application.

I walked in to the service canada and requested for transfer to local passport office. Transfer is in progress. They said I will get a call from local office for the next steps.

Hi, i didn’t know we can request transfer from service Canada, please confirm.
I was of the opinion it could only be done on phone.

Yes, we can. I transferred in whitby service canada. There is a different line in service canada for checking the status of the passports.. make sure you stand in that line.

Hello my application time is almost the same as yours:

App received in Ottawa (sent to Gatineau address): April 12
Cc charged: May 8

So, I called yesterday around 5:30pm to inquire about the status of my application. There were 60+ people ahead of me and waited probably around 45 mins or so. Was told that my application is in process without any notes / findings on my file. It looked good per his opinion. His advice was to wait and see if the passport will arrive within 2-3 weeks. If not, call again.

I would say if you did not get the call it is a danger sign. Passport office staff need to get your consent for the additional transfer fee and credit card details before they could accept the transfer and paper form is shipped to local office

Update: I called today and the agent put in the transfer. She told me that the local office will call me to confirm details of travel which I would need to fax to them once they call, along with the payment info. But she said don’t expect to get a call any earlier that 2 days before date of travel (my travel date is May 27, so don’t expect call earlier than the 25th!).. this is again giving me serious anxiety! Seems like I am in a suspense thriller movie waiting for the final climax

Hi guys, I just got my PP and certificate this morning. Single applicant. My timelines are as follows:

App delivery - March 14th
CC charge - Apr 06
PP delivery - May 12th

Has anyone had success getting a mail-in application transferred to a local office and what was the turnaround time?
April 13 - mail in application received
May 10 - credit card charged
May 11 - went in person to local office (Gatineau) and requested transfer with proof of travel on May 25
They were very vague and said I’d get a call or otherwise just to show up May 24 (day before travel) and it “should” be ready. Very nerve wracking!
