So they are not considering appointment date & travel date both included while calculating 25 business days?

I got an appointment for my spouse for 25-May & travel date is 29-June. If both appointment date & travel date are included then it is 26 business days.

Also, appointment email mentions "If you need a passport in less than 25 business days from the date of your appointment, a proof of travel or need is required. " We will need passport atleast 7 days before travel date as we have to apply for Visa as well.

Hope they accept application.
Yes same issue for me too. After applying for passport i need to get oci for India which takes time hence i cant have travel date with ticket within few weeks of applying passport since the travel will be after 8 weeks.
I doubt that they will agree as many will be coming with dates after 6 weeks. Not sure if i need to book some refundable tickets to get the passport done quick so that i get passport to apply for oci after that so that my family can travel during the summer school break. Or i should book flexible tickets and change date later.

You can try the refundable ticket route, try Air Canada ECONOMY COMFORT tickets to US. And I have heard OCI is now taking 3 months.
I also have a travel in summer to India, so I am planning to do passport surrender and entry visa now and deal with OCI process after I come back (cannot handle another long process after the whole citizenship/passport process)

I had an 11:00 appointment this morning in the Vancouver office. Got there at 10:50 and walked out at 12:10 for an urgent processing (I fly next week). The lines are ridiculous and security has no concept of how to triage or stage people into lines. The officers are also quizzing everyone on why they need urgent or express processing (ie, why did you book a flight without having a passport?). I pointed to the date of my certificate and the mail date on the envelope and the agent changed his tone to "oh congrats! you need express processing and can come back tomorrow to get it!"

Picked up my passport today. 5 business days from the app.

You need surrender certificate to apply for oci. so please factor that as well (it takes 10 days -5 weeks ) depending on your jurisdiction

More than OCI, you need to have surrender done. Then apply for visa. Alternatively you can use indian passport for 3 months after acquiring foreign citizenship. I read in this same forums that someone was successfully able to return with Indian passport after oath by showing this 3 month clause to departure immigration.

3 months clause is discussed in OCI thread & its very risky to use that since PR card is cut during oath ceremony.

Great thanks. Now thinking i can give it a try ;) .
Its really hassle dealing with cic and passport office to make them send it urgently and spending on visa and then spending on tickets with short booking.

It should be much easier in your case bcoz you can return to US with your US visa and Indian PP.

Yes no issues entering US. Just for the India trip for my family which i am trying to see if they can travel this June without worrying about changing passports in short period (and without begging cic and passport office)

How will we enter back in Canada with Indian passport, since we no longer have PR Card?

If we try to fly back using Canadian passport, they will ask for entry stamp. As per those posts in other groups legal process will be to get surrender certificate while in India & then to get exit visa.

It will only work for US residents or people who have US visa and try going via land to Canada. Mostly op was responding for my situation.
We have US visa and residing in Detroit hence no issues traveling without canada passport.

FYI Appointments:
It looks like if i search for 26 business days or dont have travel date then i see lot of service canada locations being listed for appointments within few days.
Not sure why they restrict to certain locations as all service canada need to send the passport information to Passport Canada anyway.

Looks like if we apply for regular ones then we can easily book appointments in service canada instead of standing in line for hours.

The text is confusing as well. in some places it says 3 months after foreign citizenship and one place it says 3 months after acquiring foreign passport. i was trying to look at the original text from passport act but could not locate it. one other option might be to email CGI in canada and directly ask the question. if they say its possible that will be a good insurance even if one lands into issues.
