I am looking into online certificate programs at Canadian institutions (Thompson Rivers, Athabasca, Durham College etc.). Are online certificate programs eligible for extra points in express entry? I do NOT need a student visa as I wish to take the courses in my home country. I am doing this solely for Express Entry points.

For example, do you think this course would be the equivalent to a One-year degree, diploma or certificate from a program at a university, college, trade or technical school, or other institute? - http://www.tru.ca/distance/programs/business-management/certificate-business-skills.html

Does anyone have any knowledge/experience of the above?

I am interested too

I dont think you can do an online program from your home country and then get eligible for EE. You will have to be a full time student here within Canada and then work here full time atleast an year on you PGWP ( unless and until you claim foreign work experience). I knew someone who was within Canada and did GAS program from Niagra College and since it was mostly online, CIC didnt even issue PGWP for him.

you can check here to find the issues with Gas program.

This will help you find details about applying for PGWP

This certificate may count as a "One-year degree..."
But it will not count as Canadian study.

In which case, why not just do an extra diploma in your home country ?

Well in my case as i am working i have to do it online anyway in my country, so if i can do it online in Canada, at least i do not need to do the ECA of the title. And Bachelor + 1 year Degree, will get more points in the CRS.

Did you take that online diploma and was it counted as extra points in the CRS?

What were your result? Were you able to earn points by studying via online from Canadian University?
