I have a question about this option c form. If you are only sponsroing your spouse and have no children do you need to fill out this part?
Also I am a Canadian citizen that was bron in Canada. I now live and work in Mexico and am a non-resident of Canada right now. Because of this I don't pay Canadian income tax. Is a Mexican income tax statement from 2013 and a letter from my employer here in Mexico stating that I work here etc. enough?

yes, this is how cic confirms no social welfare has been drawn. if you don't have the option c form for whatever reason, the alternative listed on the checklist is providing 12 months of paystubs and an explanation. How much you make is not the issue. It is whether or not you have used welfare. There are many sponsors who don't work who are succesful in being eligible.

Even though you are not currently residing in canada, i don't believe you are exempt from filing canadian income taxes. Technically, i think you are suppose to report your world income every year to CRA and file taxes.

So just pay stubs? I have a letter from my employer and the income tax from here for 2013. Send those also? I have been informed that as a non-resident I do not need to file taxes in Canada.

That's correct. You don't need to worry about world-wide income...only income from Canada:
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/nnrsdnts/ndvdls/nnrs-eng.html

As a non-resident of Canada, you pay tax on income you receive from sources in Canada. The type of tax you pay and the requirement to file an income tax return depend on the type of income you receive.

oh my bad, i thought all income needs to be reported and taxes need to be filed regardless of where you are. maybe i am confused because of the us rules.

No problem. So what do you think? Send the pay stubs, letter and tax return just to cover all bases?

Yep. The good ol' U S of A is one of only two countries in the world that taxes people based on citizenship, rather than residency.

Lucky us, huh?!

yes. anything to prove you did not draw on public assistance in the past 12 months. that seems to be the major financial concern for sponsors. i would also include an explanation so it's clear why all those forms are there.

When the wife and I applied for her PR, I sent in my pay stubs and wrote a letter. I translated the stubs from Japanese to English. We didn't have a problem.

One other question. There are some spots on the forms dealing with dates, where I need to write "present" for jobs and for my address. You can not fill out the dates by writing, only with numbers. So I assume you fill in the most you can online, print and then fill in the rest? Are you able to validate and print if those date spaces are not filled in?

I think that's what I did. I can't remember as it's been a couple of years!

yes, people have reported to either print it out and handwrite "present" or they use the date of which the application is signed. I can't speak to the validation part because i hand wrote all of my forms.
