Hello,

With no offense to anyone, i wish to have a better understanding of the importance of the "Canadian Experience" for newcomers. I find it unjust to recruit new comers with a very low base salary disregarding all their years of experience wherever they came from, all for the sake of not having the Canadian experience.

Worse still you find some in environments where they perform a lot better than many with the Canadian experience and high pay package. I went through the same "lack of Canadian experience" concept when i arrived many years ago. But now that i understand the system a little better, i find that practice not just and a prejudice to many good candidates.

I think that many abuse of the concept of "lack of Canadian experience" to keep skilled workers on low paid salaries and i find that unfair.

I never worked a single hour before coming to Canada. Within 2 weeks of landing, I was offered a full time job with benefits. No survival job or outside my line of work. It can happen..

Maybe people should immigrate to countries that treat them more fairly.... just a thought....

You are definitely an exception. I got a full time job 1 month after my arrival but came to notice that i was doing the job a lot better than my peers who were paid higher because they had the Canadian experience. At the end i wonder if it should be performance at the fore front or the number of years spent in Canada.
 
I think job offers are purely based on your experience and education.
There are lots of jobs and almost every immigrant I know is finding jobs and settling down. Its always tough when you move to a new country, to adjust to the culture, people and language. I think its part of the journey. There is no point in blaming the system,after all it was your choice to immigrate. Canada welcomed you, but it was still your choice.
I believe that its a great country and the people are great!
It might take a while, but people make it here! Everyone I know who came here with just two bags have made it!
 
In which career fields are Canadian Experience importants? Would it be important in something like software engineering?

I came to this country also thinking that I need Canadian experience and you know what. It's nonsense because they honestly don't care if you have Canadian experience or not as long as you have experience and you can perform the job perfectly well that's all that matters.

Now don't let a recruiter or a company fool you by saying that you don't have experience because your experience in your homeland is equivalent to what they do here.

I asked a interview this question after my interview and I said "Do I need Canadian experience" The hiring manager turned round and said "No your experience is acknowledged here and we will do a reference check. Your English is perfect and in fact it's better than most Canadians because your British. If your english was not good then yes we would require Canadian experience because we can't afford to have any miss-communications here as that could affect our companies performance"

So if your english is really good you will be fine.

People from the UK, specially English are treated even better than Canadians, in fact UK passport is the most desirable immigrant there can be in this country. Other countries that are well accepted and treated as equals are: Australians, US citizens, South Africans, New Zealanders. Other West Europe immigrants are also treated as equals (excluding Spaniards).

So yes, English plays an important part, but it is more important to be from these countries than to have a good English or Canadian experience.

Exactly and from my own experience I can agree on this. It's sad but true.

Even if your not from these countries don't feel discouraged at all as long as your English is decent you be fine. But if you can speak French and you move to Canada excluding Quebec you will hit a goldmine as I wish I could speak French as that be a automatic pay raise right there.

Dear All,

I am Mech engineer NOC 2132, applied for FSW 2014. Perhaps you all know that getting job in Canada is not so easy and I think it is better to start homework before we move to Canada so that atleast we could have job in pipeline OR we could have road map to follow--

Considering that, here I am trying to collect ideas about how to get job in our field --

I am starting from myself but I am also looking for your ideas/views, at the end these will be benefited to all of us --

1) Do networking - networking via friends, relatives, linkedin, professional bodies, calling job agents, go to university job fairs, attend seminars, find seminars online or via universities websites and go there to do marketing about yourself.

2) Register Government employment dept. and private companies.
3) Get yellow pages and find field related companies/offices where we think our resume could be sold - take an appointment to talk for few min
4) Attend seminars/meetings conducted by state license board

Guys put your more ideas..
