Canadian Consulate Workers

Hi Guys--

I was wondering if anyone knows the answer to this. Are the Canadian Consulate workers in various countries Canadian or nationals of the various countries processing the requests.

For example, when you are a citizen of China is your "outland" request being processed by Chinese nationals working for the Canadian Consul or Canadians working and living abroad?

Anyone have any idea?

I think they employ both..I know to work at CHC-LONDON You don't have to be Canadian! You do have to have clearance to work in the UK or you must have Citizenship/Permanent Residency in the UK to work there..so I would imagine it would be the same in other Embassies around the world.

I was told that all the clerical work is done by local Nationals anything to do with decision making and final review , interviews is done by canadian citizens .

Most employees at any embassy are not Canadians. At some embassies the initial processing of the visa applications is done by an outside agency. At most it is done in the embassy. Not all interview are done by Canadians. I think boyee's VO, for example, was an Indian citizen. The woman who interview my husband in Ghana is not on the list of foreign service personnel, even though she has been working there for 10 years, which makes me think she is also not Canadian.

In theory the best person to interview would be a national of that country....they know the cultural norms, know what to look for in terms of fraud etc. However (at some visa offices at least) in practice it seems they often have a very narrow view of things and are unable or unwilling to understand that Canadian values may be different.

That is what i am thinking how can a non-canadian decide if we are able to immigrate to canada or not. I just dont get that.
