Hi!

I have applied for canadian citizenship but the process is taking a little longer than excepted so I need to apply for a Indian passport since my Indian passport expired 4 years ago. I plan to travel (haven't gotten tickets yet) so I need to get the Passport because there is no set time of when I will actually get Canadian Citizenship.

BLS requires a search letter from IRCC, since the search letter would state that I have an application in progress for Canadian Citizenship, would that have any affect on my reissue of Indian passport?

But why does BLS care about your Canadian citizenship application?
As long as you Indian citizen you can renew your passport. Is it because of 4 yr delay for renewal?

Yes, I'm just unsure if it'll have an affect but I guess it shouldn't. I didn't have any intend of travelling so I just went forward and applied for Canadian citizenship but now that's taking long and I hope to travel to India in the Fall.

My guess is that BLS wouldn't care about the open application (since those can be denied or withdrawn and don't accord any status of their own), what BLS would be looking for with the search letter is that the applicant didn't already become a Canadian citizen yet. As long as that's the case there shouldn't be any issue, from what I understand - but please report back if something does come up as an issue!
