Hi, I am a Canadian citizen living in Bangladesh. My wife is a Moroccan living with me. My Child was born 3 months ago. I have not applied for her Canadian passport as it takes more than a year to get. I will be going to Canada this summer with my wife and child and want to apply for her Canadian passport in Canada. What kind of visa should I apply for my child and should I mention on the purpose of visit that I want to apply for her Citizenship and Passport in Canada. Or should i go to Embassy and ask for a temporary passport to go to Canada. Please Suggest.

Below assumes you were born in Canada or naturalized a citizen:

Contact the consular section at the embassy.

You apply for a certificate (proof) of citizenship, then apply for temporary passport. Best is to contact the embassy ASAP to ask how to proceed. Sometimes you can submit both directly to consular section, you may need to send/submit the application first and then apply for temporary passport. Basically they issue the temporary passport (valid for a year or two) on the basis that the app for certificate of citizenship shows the child can be presumed to be a citizen.

Only in extremely rare cases will they issue a visa to a citizen in another passport. Also note, your child will need some national ID to apply, again check with embassy/high commission.

I'm not aware of any other ways that make sense given the timelines. BUT: contact the High Commission's consular section, they can suggest and answer question.

As far as I'm aware once you have the forms ready it can be done in 2-4 weeks. It may be faster in emergency situations, but you don't want to be in that situation - get organized in advance.

You will need to go through the same 1 year process in Canada as well. You can’t just walk into a passport office in Canada and obtain your child’s 1st Canadian passport. That is only an option if your baby has been born in Canada.
