I am working on a company in US that also has office in Canada. The headquarter is US based, but most of the executives are Canadian and it is profit making company. However, my payroll runs in US based company and I don't travel back and forth between Canada and US. I am not sure if I can claim residency obligation based on foreign employment for Canadian business. Can you please share your thoughts or experiences?

Where you first hired by the Canadian arm of the company as a Canadian permanent resident, worked a while (a few months minimum) for the Canadian arm, and then at a later date were transferred to a permanent role in the US? If the answer to all of these questions is yes - then you have a chance. Otherwise no.

What has been expressed many times is that you would have had to started you employment with the company in Canada at the Canadian office and then they transfer you out of Canada to have any chance of it working towards you residency requirement.
